Repair and replacement of plastic parts
Car manufacturers increase the use of plastic in the manufacture of vehicles (bumpers, spoilers, even the body panels, etc..). In case of serious damage to such items it is recommended to consult specialists in this area, or to replace them, as in a conventional body shop repair is very expensive due to the high cost of equipment and materials. The basis of the technology is creating repair groove rotary file, inserted into the electric, through a crack in the plastic. Damaged elements are then welded together using a heat gun, is used for heating and fusing the plastic filling in the groove of the rod. Excess plastic was then removed and the entire area is treated to obtain a flat and smooth surface. It is important to use a filler rod suitable type as the plastic elements of the body may be made of different materials (polycarbonate, ABS, polypropylene, etc.).
Minor damage (attrition, small cracks, etc..) Can be removed in the repair shop with an epoxy repair mortar, consisting of two components. If they are mixed in equal proportions, the solution is used to repair body similar to using filler metal surfaces. The filler is usually cured for 20-30 minutes and is ready for processing and painting.
If the repair shop is replacing all elements of the body or repair it using an epoxy solution, there is a problem of selection of ink that would be compatible with the type of plastic. Using universal paints is impossible due to the large number of different types of plastic, of which the body elements. Conventional paint will not keep your plastic or rubber. Currently, however, the opportunity to acquire a set of processing steps to the final plastic, which includes compositions for preliminary and primary treatment of the plastic surface and multicolored compositions for applying the last layer. A complete list of instructions for use is usually attached to the kit, but basically the method of using it comprises applying the composition on a pre-treated surface and then aging it for 30 minutes before drying. Then, a primary composition, which is dried for 1 h, before applying the finishing composition of the color layer. The result is a dyed in the desired color component body, rubber or plastic surfaces that holds paint well.
