Even with full synchronization, easy gear changes and "light" clutch pedal switch gears for some drivers remain a challenge. To release the driver from the need to address it, Mercedes-Benz began producing automatic transmissions (automatic transmission).

ACP (Fig. 1.17) is designed for convenient and easy operation.
Its distinctive feature is a smooth and easy gear changes. AKP alone decides when and how the transfer is necessary to apply. Control and management of electrical and hydraulic functions of the automatic transmission by a special electronic control unit. The fourth generation of the AKP, which are set from the beginning of 1995 at the Mercedes E-Class (E 320 and E 420), has a 5-speed gear with electronic control.
