A flywheel or a leading disk (model with automatic gearbox)

On the engine flywheel with a combined installed vibration damper (damper). The meaning of such a design is to reduce the flywheel and preventing transmission to the transmission of torsional vibrations arising on the crankshaft during engine operation due to interlace stroke cycle cylinder engine. This significantly reduces the noise caused by the torsional vibrations. The front of the flywheel is secured tightly on the crankshaft. It is mounted on vibration damper consisting of a spring-damper system. The back of the flywheel is attached to this torsional vibration dampers. Thus, it has no rigid connection to the front of the flywheel and hence to the crankshaft. Installed here the clutch is also divided with the engine of the torsional vibration damping system.

Before replacing the flywheel should measure the height in order to get a new hand wheel of the same design. In Fig. 84 and 85 shows the flywheels in question. In Fig. 76 also shows the shape of a flywheel and a leading disk.
Flywheel or drive plate with the ring gear for starting the engine by the starter can change without further balancing of the crankshaft. The ring gear of the flywheel or the drive plate can also be replaced with a new one and although the job better perform in the workshop, the following is a description of this work. Prior to its implementation is not necessary to remove the engine.
To remove the combined flywheel, proceed as follows:
- Remove the gearbox;

Securing the flywheel on the crankshaft (arrow shows the center of the hole)
Fig. 86. Securing the flywheel on the crankshaft (arrow shows the center of the hole): 1 - a ring gear; 2 - a flywheel; 3 - pliable bolts M10h22 mm; 4 - Ball Bearing

- Hold the flywheel from turning a screwdriver inserted between the teeth of the ring gear, or a bolt inserted into the hole of the flange of the cylinder, in order to turn on all eight bolts flywheel. On the subsequent installation of a flywheel or a leading disk ensure that the hole drilled in the flywheel and located between the two screws, and the holes in the flange of the crankshaft always oppose each other. In Fig. 86 shows the location of the holes. On the master drive performed similar openings;
- Remove the flywheel or the drive plate. Under the drive plate spacers are installed, which are also exempt after loosening the bolts;

Main dimensions to check the status stretch bolts
Fig. 87. The main dimensions to check the status stretch bolts: L - the length of the bolt; d - diameter of the bolt supple; D - diameter of the threaded part of the bolt

- To measure the diameter of the thin screws. If the result of the measurement on any of the bolts is smaller than 8.1 mm, such a bolt should be replaced. The measurements are performed as shown in Fig. 87;
- Check and replace the flywheel ring gear. If you have signs of wear or burns on the flywheel should be subject to regenerative repair. On specialized SRT company Mercedes-Benz has conducted all the necessary data measurement and monitoring. To replace the toothing require heating device with a control range temperature to 220 ? C.
Replace the flywheel must be performed in the following sequence:
- Mark the position of the ring gear on the flywheel and tighten the flywheel in a vice;
- Between two teeth of the crown to drill a hole to the flywheel, but not crashing drill into the flywheel;
- Using a chisel to chop off the old ring gear;

A warning
Protect your eyes from possible falling debris when working with a flywheel.

- Thoroughly clean the landing gear on the flywheel;
- A new crown to warm to this temperature (see. Above) and quickly with a pair of pliers to put on the flywheel. Soft metal mandrel and a hammer to fix the position of the crown on the flywheel. This work should be carried out very quickly.

Pulling out of the ball bearing crankshaft
Fig. 88. Pulling out of the ball bearing crankshaft

To replace the ring gear on the master drive is necessary to dismantle the ring gear with a steel ring with a leading disk. On the subsequent assembly of a new part installed in such a way that all the holes for the fixing bolts of the ring gear and torque converter on the steel ring and the master of the match.
On the crankshaft flange mounted ball bearing. On cars with a manual gearbox for this bearing 6 (see. Fig. 84) pressed in the retaining ring 7, which is on both sides to protect the private washer made of synthetic material Viton. For bearing washer is remote. To drive out the bearing together with the ferrule stripper should be used as shown in Fig. 88.
If the bearing is removed, it is necessary to press in the retaining ring on the engine under the manual transmission.

Location of the center hole on the master drive
Fig. 89. The location of the center hole on the master drive

Install the flywheel or the drive plate must be performed as follows:
- To the crankshaft flange fasten the flywheel or the drive plate and rotate it until then, until the center hole is not stand against each other. When installing the flywheel, refer to Fig. 86, and the installation of a leading disk - to Fig. 89, in which finding the center of the hole. When installing the drive disc should be imposed on him protection disc;
- Tighten the mounting bolts and tighten to 30-40 Nm. To tighten these bolts required Allen key. Finally tighten the bolts yet at 90-100 ?, which corresponds to about 1/4 of a turn. Required tightening angle must necessarily be maintained in order to use the action of the elastic stretch bolts.
