Removing and installing rear propshaft



Details of installation of the two-piece rear propeller shaft


PERFORMANCE ORDER

Self-locking bolts and shims must be replaced without fail!

  1. Details of installation of the two-piece rear propeller shaft shown in the illustration, which includes all the links in the text.
  2. Remove the self-locking bolts (1b) fixing the front section (1) of the rear propeller shaft to the output flange of the transfer box, remove the shim (1c).
  3. Remove the self-locking bolts (2a) mounting the rear section (2) the driveshaft to the drive flange of the rear differential.
  4. Remove the screws (7d) fastening of the intermediate bearing assembly of the propeller shaft to the beam frame.
  5. Gently lower shaft assembly, post it back and pull out from under the car.
  6. Rate the degree of wear of the constant velocity joint (CV joint) at the front end of the shaft, universal joints and an intermediate bearing, if necessary, replace the shaft assembly.
  7. If necessary, remove the intermediate bearing (see. Section Removal and installation of an intermediate bearing rear of the crankshaft).
  8. Installation is in the reverse order - carefully smooth surface interface, try to prevent the deformation of the bearing assembly.
