Relay - the general information and check of serviceability of functioning

general information

For a power supply or control signal at some of the power consumers in the car (such as the components of the fuel injection system, horn, starter motor, cooling fan, fog lights, etc.) are used relays. In fact, the relay is an electrical switch that provides the closure of the I / O circuit of the low-voltage signal. In the event of a relay failure fails the appropriate functioning of the consumer. Relays are installed in the installation unit under the instrument panel and in the blocks in the engine compartment (see. Specifications). Description check serviceability of functioning of the relay is shown below. Faulty relay must be replaced.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. If you can not find a way to relay the appropriate electric circuit for connection diagrams (diagrams), it should be remembered that the approach to the verification of any relay in principle the same in all cases (see. Below).
  2. In most cases, two of the terminals are always connected relay control circuit. When applied to these terminals low voltage current starts to circulate through the coil control relay, resulting in the closure of a large working contacts contour consumer. The other terminals are terminals operating (I / O) circuit.
  3. In order to facilitate the identification of the relay terminals on the casing is usually applied explanatory labeling schemes connected with the image of keys.
  4. Before removing the relay, make sure that the appropriate circuit is de-energized.
  5. Connect the fuse fitted jumper wire between one of the control terminals of the relay and the positive battery terminal. With the second jumper wire to ground the second terminal management, - the relay is to publish a click. Some relays require that we comply polarity - if it clicks did not happen, try to change the polarity of control terminals.
  6. When connecting the jumper wire check for continuity between the terminals of the I / O circuit.
  7. At negative result of check replace the relay.
