Starting the engine from the auxiliary power supply
Use of the auxiliary power supply can help you make the engine run in an extreme situation, but then must find and eliminate the cause of a low battery. The most common causes include: - Conducting repeated unsuccessful attempts to start the engine or leaving lighting on for a long time with the engine off;
- Infringement of serviceability of functioning of the charging system (weak or broken alternator drive belt, damaged wiring, or a problem with the generator);
- The fault itself Battery (electrolyte level dropped or left battery life).
When the engine is started by an external power supply should be given to comply with some special precautions: - Do not attempt to start the engine from a frozen battery - pre-warm it;
- Starting the engine from the auxiliary power supply must be carried out only at the cold power unit and catalytic converter;
- Do not start using the exercise device for fast charging the battery;
- Before you connect the auxiliary battery, make sure the ignition is switched off;
- Only use cables with a sufficient cross-section and with insulated terminals;
- Make sure that all consumers of electricity (lighting and heaters, wipers, etc.) have also been turned off;
- Wear protective gloves and goggles;
- Make sure that the auxiliary battery is of the output voltage corresponding to the set;
- If the auxiliary power supply is used the battery installed in another vehicle, make sure that the cars do not touch each other;
- The car engine-donor must operate at idle speed;
- Make sure the transmission is set to neutral transfer (Manual transmission) or to "P" (AT);
- With a discharged battery, remove the vent caps and cover the holes with rags.
Connect one end of the wire (usually red) to the positive terminal of the low battery. The other end of the wire is connected to the positive terminal of the auxiliary battery. The sequence of connecting the wires to start the engine from the auxiliary power supply One end of the second wire (usually black) connect to the negative terminal of the auxiliary battery. The other end of the black wire is connected to a properly grounded point to start the engine block (bolt or bracket), as far as possible away from the battery. Make sure that the connecting wires are not in contact with moving components in the engine compartments of both cars (equipped with a fan, belts, etc.). By keeping the engine speed of the car donor at 2000 rev / min, follow the standard procedure for starting the engine of the car with the discharged battery, and then let it run for a few minutes at high speed. In order to prevent power surges when disconnecting electrical heater switch on the rear window and heater fan, then disconnect the wires, acting in the reverse order of their connection. Be sure to install the battery vent caps removed.
