Replacing the spark plugs. Is as follows:
- Always use the manufacturer's recommended type of spark plugs (see. Section on integrated engine management system);
- If the engine has been running shortly before the replacement of spark, let it cool;

NOTE
Despite the fact that the manufacturer recommends replacing the spark plugs every 30 thousand. Kilometers, under certain conditions (use of low-quality gasoline with an octane rating of artificially high, the poor state of the engine), the procedure should be carried out much more often.

- On engines ABU, ABD AEA and remove the air filter or an air chamber throttle body;
- If a spark plug wires installed in the factory, there are no labels, apply them according to the number of cylinders (first cylinder is at the timing belt);
- Disconnect the spark, thus beware: remove wire holding only the tip, otherwise you can tear off the wire;
- Remove the accumulated dirt from the grooves of candles with a clean and stiff brush (you can with any solute): Do not allow dirt to get inside the cylinder;
- Proper spark plug wrench suitable socket wrench or deep face head extension and turn out candles. Unscrewing the spark, keep the key or face head positioned coaxially with the candle - with too much force can break the ceramic insulator;
- After removing inspect each candle. If the insulator of the spark plug is clean and white, it does not have deposits - a sign of lean or too strong heating. If the end of the insulator and the outer electrode is covered with a solid black touch - this means that the mixture pereobogaschena. If the candle is black and it contains traces of oil, this indicates that the engine is very old. An indication of the correct operation of the engine are minor deposits with color from light tan to grayish-brown;
- In the case of adjusting the spark gap beware: last wire only with a special tool, in any case, do not bend the electrode - this can lead to cracking of the insulator and a candle exit out of the system, including the engine off;
- Install new spark. In order not to damage the threads in the spark plug, initially orient and possibly spark screw a few turns by hand or use a tool to facilitate the correct orientation of the candles in the nest. Be careful: if you start spinning candle straight, can be damaged cylinder head;
- Connect the high-voltage wires to the spark, having tracked correctness of their placement on cylinders, and install (if necessary) before the dismantled elements.
Changing the air Dr. folder. Is as follows:
- Remove the top cover of the air cleaner, releasing its latches. Be careful: on some models the air flow sensor is an integral part of the top cover of the air filter, handle it very carefully - it is an expensive item and it is very easy to damage;
- Remove the old air filter, then remove the filter housing from the dirt;
- Install a new air filter into place, paying special attention to the correct placement;
- Replace the top cover of the air filter, fasten the clips. On models that have the air filter is mounted on the throttle case, the arrow on the top cover must be the same.
Liquid replacement in automatic transmission. This operation is recommended at the service station, have the appropriate equipment. An automatic transmission for vehicles Golf III does not have a drain hole, so it requires a special pump to pump.
Replacement filter air entering the cabin. As follows:
- To remove the filter air entering the passenger compartment (if fitted equipment) located on the right under the panel covering the wiper motor, separate the rubber seal on the appropriate side of the bulkhead;
- Unscrew the fixing screws and pull the corresponding half of the mounting panel, the wiper motor cover, then remove it;
- Turn the filter housing cover up and away, then release the tabs and remove the filter;
- Clean the filter, set the filter element;
- Further assembly in reverse order.
Check the ignition system. Is as follows:
- Check the high-voltage wires of spark plugs. Remove a wire from the spark plug, grasp the tip, not the cord to avoid damage to the wire itself; If you are unsure about installing the wires before removing number them in order to avoid confusion later. Check the tip inside the absence of galvanic corrosion, which is a sign of a solid white patches. Make sure the tip is firmly fixed on the candle. If insecure attachment, remove the wire again and pliers gently crimp the metal tip inside the connector so that it can be securely connected to the end of the candle;
- A clean cloth to remove any dirt from the wire, check the burnouts, cracks and other damage. Be careful not to bend the wire excessively or stretch it, not to break inside the conductor; disconnect the other end of the wire from the distributor cap, pull it just for the tip. Check for corrosion and tightened in the same way as was done for the spark plug end of the wire. If you have an ohmmeter, check the resistance of the wire connecting device between the candle end and the electrode wires inside the distributor cap. After scanning the wire securely in place. Check all wires on the same algorithm, but if in the process of verification you found defects in wiring, buy the full set, designed specifically for your vehicle and the engine;
- Unscrewing the bolts, remove the ignition distributor. Remove all dirt from it, and carefully inspect the inside and outside of the cracks, the black and wear tracks burnout, burnt or loosening of contacts. Check whether the worn carbon brush in the lid of the distributor, whether it moves easily under the action of the spring, and if it has good contact with the rotor of the distributor of ignition. Examine the lid seal, check for signs of wear or damage;
- Remove the slider from the ignition distributor shaft, inspect it for any of the above damage, replace if necessary;
- When replacing the distributor cap ignition remove the wires from the old cover one by one, and attach them to the new cap in the same places. When replacing the watch so that the slider is securely fixed at the axis of the distributor of ignition, tighten the cover screws;

NOTE
To improve the engine start, in wet weather and manipulate the elements of a high-water-repellent sprays (eg, WD-40), it is recommended to replace the cover of the distributor of ignition and a slider with high-voltage spark plug wire;

- Perform check ignition timing.
Checking / topping up oil in vehicles equipped with manual transmission is switched iem as follows:
- The oil level is checked before the trip or at least five minutes after switching off the engine if the check the oil level immediately after the engine is switched off, the portion of the oil will be distributed between the elements of the gearbox, which will result in an incorrect result;

- Oil-filling (control) the gearbox hole is: have four-speed transmission type "084" (engines with a displacement of 1.4 liters) - on the differential housing (Fig. 1.17); from a five-speed transmission of type "085" (engines with a displacement of 1.4 liters and 1.6 liters) - on the left end of the differential case (Fig. 1.18); from a five-speed transmission of type "020" (engines with a displacement of 1.8 liters and 2.0 liters, one camshaft) - on the differential housing (Fig. 1.19);

- A five-speed transmission of type "02A" (engines with 2.0-liter and two camshafts) - in front of the differential case (Fig. 1.20);
- Put the car on level ground;
- Remove the crankcase of the engine from the engine compartment;
- Remove any dirt around the filler plug, and then remove the plug;
- Check the oil level: it should reach the lower edge of the filler opening; Keep in mind that a small amount of oil is going behind the cork and will trickle trickle after its removal, but it does not mean that the oil level is sufficient. Therefore, wait until the oil stops flowing, and then add oil until until a trickle of new oil. The right level established after the excess oil will flow;
- If the gearbox topped up a lot of oil, replace the cap and take a short drive to the new oil fully allocated between the elements of the gearbox, and only then re-check the level;
- After the completion of the regulatory procedures establish a new sealing ring on the filler plug, screw it in place, tighten.
Check drive belts optional equipment. Is as follows:
- Disconnect the battery from the vehicle electrical system;
- Put the vehicle on a horizontal surface, fix the car parking brake, place the stops;
- Raise the front of the vehicle, substitute reliable support, remove the wheel;
- Turn the steering wheel fully to the right, then remove the crankcase of the engine;
- Rotating the crankshaft using the Allen wrench for a bolt sprocket, inspect the belts throughout. Pay particular attention to cracks, surface wear belts, oil stains;
- If there is visible signs of damage or wear, replace the belts.
Setting the service interval display. Is as follows:
Upon completion of all the necessary maintenance work, check their performance in memory on-board information system.
