troubleshooting

Automatic transmission provides selection of the desired gear ratio according to the mechanical, hydraulic and electronic effects to be applied to the unit. Certain repairs are beyond the scope of this guide. This section describes the typical problem that can be addressed independently.
The board self-test electronic control unit provides monitoring of normal operating parameters of the transmission detects parameters beyond the specified limits shall be stored in fault detection and stores the information for later viewing. Most electronic products that make up the electronic control automatic transmission can be checked by testing the connector pins of this unit. At specialized service stations to read and display the information contained in the memory of the failure to use special electronic equipment. In order to quickly determine the cause of the problem and to repair the car should be presented to specialists who will be able to decipher the information in memory of the failures. If necessary, contact your local authorized dealer service center ?Volkswagen?.

The level of transmission fluid
Pay attention to the condition of transmission fluid. The first event in troubleshooting should be to check the fluid level and condition.
Sometimes seemingly serious malfunctions of automatic transmission can be eliminated only by restoring the level of the transmission fluid. The liquid level is strongly temperature dependent, so important compliance measurement conditions.

A WARNING
Not allowed filling of liquid above the normal level. Excess liquid may cause abnormal operation of the transmission.

If the level is significantly lower than the norm, it is necessary to examine the transmission housing and check for external damage. Carefully check that in place of fasteners and tightness, as well as pay attention to possible signs of leaks. If the leakage is not detected from the outside to cause lowering of the transmission fluid may be a violation of the inner seal cover main transmission, which leads to a significant increase in the oil level.

Status fluid
Checking the status of the fluid conducted visually. During normal operation, the red color of fresh liquid darkens much that is not a reason for its immediate replacement.
Corrosive, "burnt" odor liquid indicates overheating, causing chemical decomposition begins. The reason for this may be either a low liquid level, or, in a more complex case, abnormal working fluid couplings clutch and brake.
Dirty or "milky" look fluid indicates water penetrating into the coolant or coolant due to a malfunction. There is also the most likely reasons include gapping gauge the transmission fluid or lack of it.
Prolonged operation with a dirty transmission fluid or poor quality can lead to the destruction of hydraulic clutches and brakes. To replace the Drain, clean the pan, replace the filter and fill with clean fluid.

Checking the oil level in the main transmission
The main compartment is filled hypoid transmission oil, providing sufficient lubrication for life. Changing the oil is not required. Check the oil level is not necessary except for leaks or any other reasons that give reason to believe that the oil level is below normal.

Roller speedometer drive may also serve to determine the level of oil in the main transfer
Fig. 8.80. Roller speedometer drive may also serve to determine the level of oil in the main transmission. Replace clean the roller, oil level should be between the arrows ?Min? and ?Max? (the difference between these levels corresponds to 0.1 liters)

The level of oil in the main transmission can be judged by the presence of lubricant on the gear drive of a speedometer. To check the cable, disconnect the speedometer in the rear upper part of the body of the main transfer roller and pull the speedometer. Clean the roller and put it back in order to check the level of grease (Fig. 8.80).

Check the engine speed of the engine at full load
These tests allow you to check the state of the torque converter and planetary gears when other obvious causes of abnormal operation no. The test is meaningless to carry out if there are signs of engine malfunction. To measure the speed needs an accurate tachometer, as readings tachometer on the dashboard is not accurate enough.
Testing
Testing performed as follows:
Start up the engine for a few minutes to warm it, and the transmission to normal working temperature;
turn off the ignition, connect the tachometer and position it so that you can read the testimony from the driver's seat. Connect a tachometer should be in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions;
Start up the engine again. Put the car on a manual brake and failure to press the brake pedal to ensure a fixed position of a vehicle;
set the selector lever to D;

A WARNING
The term behavior of the test should be as short as possible - self test should be completed immediately after reading the tachometer. Limit the tests - 5. If necessary to carry out the following test, the time from the first before the second should be at least 20 seconds.

NOTE
The result should be 2700 min-1. Speed may be reduced by about 125 min-1 for every 1000 meters above sea level. At high temperatures, the air speed must also be reduced.

keeping the car brakes, depress the accelerator pedal to full throttle, at the same time removing the tachometer reading. The engine speed should increase and then remain constant when exposed to stress.
If the speed is several hundred rpm lower, the reason may be a decrease in traction qualities of the engine. Excessive speed is a malfunction of the torque converter and planetary gears.
