Front shock absorber
Removing the rack in the following order: - Remove the wheel covers; - Loosen the nut of the hub in the "car RV"; - Loosen the wheel bolts; - Hang out and secure the support struts front of the vehicle; - Loosen the wheel bolts and remove the wheel; - Set the jack under the outer end of the arm;

- In the engine compartment with a lever, remove cover 1 (Fig. 10.2) from the top of the strut. While holding the damper rod by turning Allen key dimension of 7 mm wrench loosen the VW 3078 self-locking nut on the shock absorber rod (Fig. 10.3); - Unscrew the nut and remove the connector stabilizer bar; - Unscrew the nut and remove the ball joint tie rod from the knuckle; - Remove the brake caliper and, using a soft wire, tie up it; - Mark the position of strut and knuckle relative to each other; - Mark the position of the upper and lower steering knuckle bolts to the counter to properly install them on the same place, and unscrew bolts; - Replace self-locking nuts and spacers; - Lower wishbone to release the rack from the top mount, and then using a lever separate the shock absorber base from the steering knuckle and remove it from the front wing. Dismantling the rack in the following order: - Clean the shock absorber base from dirt;

|
- To remove the shock absorber to compress the spring, which, use the special tool (Fig. 10.4);
| Fig. 10.5. Unscrewing the nuts upper cup
|
- Compress the spring until until there is an upper cup, then remove the collet or a special tool VW-524 (hex head) slotted nut on top of the damper rod (Fig. 10.5).
A WARNING When installing the grips on the coils of the spring, take care to lock securely in place with a spring and did not come off when it is compressed. Spring is compressed evenly on both sides. Because of the risk of injury do not attempt to pull the spring coils or wire rope as the compressive force of the spring is very large and there is a chance break insecure. |
At the same time hold the shock-absorber rod from turning with the Allen key. As another method, you can clamp the shock-absorber rod socket or spanner on facets;
A WARNING Central nut loosen only when the compressed spring. |
- Remove the bearing 5 (see. Fig. 10.2) strut with upper cup 6 (see. Fig. 10.2) of the spring. When replacing bearings, replace the entire bearing assembly; - Remove the coil spring with strut previously noted position of the upper part; - Remove the stem from the compression buffer 7 (see. Fig. 10.2), and protective cover 8; - If you want to replace the spring slowly unclench her. If you are replacing only the shock absorber spring compressed leave. Check. Check out all the elements of the shock absorber for wear, damage or deformation. Check for smooth stroke shock absorber. Check for leaks shock absorber and its piston rod to pitting over the entire length. In the presence of defects shock absorber must be replaced.
A WARNING The springs must be replaced as a pair. New springs have a corrosion-resistant paint. Before installing the springs check the integrity of the coating and, if necessary, touch up the spring. |
Reassembly is the reverse order to dismantling. Rack Installation is carried out in reverse order of removal. Insert spring strut and screw the new self-locking nut on the damper rod. If you are installing a new shock absorber, check the camber angle of the front wheels and, if necessary, adjust it (see. "Wheel alignment").
