Repair of starter

A WARNING
Depending on the modification of the starter operation to repair a particular model may differ slightly from those described below.

Dismantling in the following order:
- Clean the starter;
- Remove the nut and disconnect the power cable from the starter grip traction relay;
- Loosen the Phillips screws, and remove the magnetic switch from the drive;
- Disconnect relay anchor on the lever of inclusion;
- Unscrew the locking bolts and take them out of the body;
- Using a screwdriver as a lever, remove the rubber pads on the lever activation;
- Remove the cover from the side of the drive and at the same time remove the lever of inclusion;
- Disconnect the lever of inclusion of the slip ring armature;
- Unscrew the screws and remove the small end cap and gasket;
- Remove the snap ring and gasket, noting the exact number of pads, as they define the axial play of the armature;
- Remove the protective plate collector with seal;
- Before removing the brush holder assembly, take the tube mandrel having an outer diameter equal to the diameter of the collector. Set opposite the mandrel collector, then slide the sleeve onto the mandrel and the brush holder;
- Mark the position of the plate with respect to the inclusion of the lever and pull the plug rotor;
- Metallic tubular mandrel knock thrust ring with the locking ring on the rotor shaft, then remove the lock and thrust washers, sliding them along the shaft;
- Remove the drive gear from the rotor shaft.
After dismantling the starter check:
- Condition of brushes, as well as freedom of movement of the brush into the brush holder;
- The length of the brush, and in the case of brush wear insert new brushes to be solder into place. When soldering make sure that the solder does not hit the wire, as it may interfere with the brushes move freely in the holders;
- The pressing force of the springs and the position of the brushes;
- View of the reservoir, which should be cleaned with a cloth soaked in white spirit, and polish with fine sandpaper;
- Condition of plugs of self-greased bearings. To replace bushings new sleeve is to be fitted in the starter should be lowered by at least 20 minutes in a motor oil (SAE viscosity grade 30 or 40);
- Check the teeth of the drive gear and ensure that the clutch rotates in one direction only;
- Check the diameter of the collector.
Reassembly is the reverse order.
