The basic malfunctions of a starter

When the starter motor starter does not work
The reason may be the failure of the starter or the traction relay and a defect can be in the wires.
To detect faults, you must first check for voltage at the terminals of the traction relay. Absence of pressure at starter inclusion testifies to damage the electrical circuit, and the presence of a voltage fault or the traction relay of a starter.
If the starter voltage is applied to the traction relay, but it does not work (no characteristic click), it means that traction relay is faulty (open or short circuit winding it on the ground).
The presence of characteristic click of operation of the traction relay testifies to the burning of the relay contacts or to failure of the starter itself.
Check operation of the starter motor can be short-term supply voltage, additional heavy gauge wire to a contact magnetic switch from the motor. If the motor starts, then the cause of the fault to be found in the traction relay.

The starter rotates slowly and do not let engine
The reasons can be: discharged battery, too thick oil in the engine lubrication system, carbon brushes insufficiently pressed to the collector of the motor starter, the poor condition of the working surface of the collector, and worn bearings starter.

When you release the ignition key from the "engine start" the starter continues to run
The reasons may include: sticking contacts of the traction relay or malfunction of the ignition, at which it opens the circuit is not a starter.
In this case, you should immediately turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery, and then troubleshoot.
