The radiator cap and check the radiator

The radiator serves to remove the heat from the coolant air flow.
The engine cooling system is pressurized. The radiator cap with gasket sealed radiator, but with specially selected spring built into the lid, when the pressure within the cooling system is raised to 140 180 kPa radiator cap opens. The pressure within the cooling system is increased due to expansion of the coolant, which leads to an increase in the boiling point.

Check the expansion tank cap by means of a pressure pump VW1274
Fig. 186. Check the expansion tank cap by means of a pressure pump VW1274

Check the radiator cap and is carried out using a pressure pump VW1274 (Fig. 186).
Screw pump VW1274 to the cover (see. Fig. 186) and use it to increase the pressure up until the lid opens. The pressure at which should occur lid opening, should be between 140 and 180 kPa. If the value of the other, replace the radiator cap.
