Overview

Body Volvo cars are made with the highest quality. Their design and equipment fully meet the modern requirements of passive safety. This is achieved by appropriate design solutions, modern technology and the use of materials to make the body operational strength, corrosion resistance, to ensure passive (protected properties of the body) safety and comfort for the crew.
Many of these properties achieved by use of high-strength, heat-treated steel HSS (High Streught Steel), which has a high yield strength and high tensile strength as compared with conventional, traditionally used for the manufacture of car bodies, steel.
Based on the need to preserve the operational properties of the body when performing maintenance work (with body damage emergency or operational nature), it imposes certain technological limitations and adds some specificity in the application of methods of repair. This is due to the properties of HSS steel

In the illustration below (see Figure 11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4), the dark shading isolated body parts made of steel HSS.

A WARNING
- Edit parts made from steel HSS, is associated with a high probability of cracking, so it is better to change, and not repaired;
- Details of HSS steel can not be heated during the straightening and oxy-acetylene welding torch;
- Using the straightening bench, as well as other ways of drawing, it can be difficult with corrections parts made of steel HSS, if the fulcrum (or protivozahvat) are chosen correctly;
- With force action closely watch the reaction of the body in a zone stretching support tool or protivozahvata, avoiding deformation elements or spatial structures of the entire body (move should only be deformed portions thereof);
- If necessary, install additional devices and technological elements that increase the rigidity of the support or protivozahvata;
- All parts are made of steel HSS, have different yield stress due to strength calculations of the body;
- The repair of damage to the car body by Volvo requires precise observance of technological recommendations below.
