Removing and installing starter
To start an internal combustion engine requires a starter. The starter motor should accelerate to 300 rev / min. This occurs only when the starter is running fine and the battery is sufficiently charged. The starter consists of the actuator housing, poles and collector. The buildings pole and is anchored collector and the collector, and the brush holder. The brush holder are carbon brushes, which are wearing parts. With strong worn carbon brushes starter may not operate normally. In the front drive housing is located gear drive. When the starter magnetic switch, located on the starter motor, gear shifts to the flywheel. When the pinion reaches the stop, it is securely connected to the flywheel. Now the starter motor can accelerate to the desired speed. When the engine is started, the gear motor accelerates and moves away from the flywheel. So how to start the engine requires a large power consumption, within the framework of maintenance necessary to monitor the flawless condition of the cable connections. Corroded contacts clean and lubricate with a protective lubricant to the poles. Depending on the engine MAZDA 323 starters set different power: petrol engines: 0.85 / 0.95 kW; Diesel engines: 1.4 / 2.2 kW. | Depending on the type of starter can be returned item, it means that the cost of the old starter counts when purchasing a new, old starter to be delivered when buying a new one. |
Removal of the petrol engine | - Remove the battery. See section Removing and installing the battery.
- Raise the vehicle.
| - Unscrew the mounting -2- intake manifold.
|
- Disconnect the cable terminal 3 -3- (also referred to as terminal 50).
- Unscrew the cable terminals in -4- (also referred to as terminal 30).
- Loosen the starter motor (3 screws). 6 = fastening of a starter.
| - Pull the starter down.

Setting | - Insert the bottom of the starter, tighten the three bolts to 50 Nm. Tightening torque for vehicles up to 9/89 MY .: 40 Nm.
- Secure the wire to the terminal 30 (B) with a force of 10 Nm.
- Connect the plug to the terminal 50 (3), it should snap into place.
- Insert support inlet tube and screwed with 50Nm top and bottom. Tighten the bolt on the fixture with a force of a starter 25 Nm.
- Lower the vehicle. See Chapter Introduction.
- Install the battery. See section Removing and installing the battery.
- If available, set the clock and set the security code radio.
