Replace the jaws plates of soft metal (brass or aluminum plate) to prevent damage to the steering mechanism and secure the latter in the grip (Fig. 5.36).

ATTENTION
When installing the steering mechanism in a vice secure it so that the jaws sovmeschaliss place installation bracket. Another method of securing a grip can damage the steering gear.

Checking the total torque pinion steering mechanism (preload shaft pinion steering)

The rotation of the gear rack and pinion steering
Fig. 5.37. The rotation of the gear rack and pinion steering

To check the total torque pinion steering with a special key, rotate the gear rack and pinion steering mechanism within one revolution during a 4-6 (Fig. 5.37).
The total torque pinion steering (nominal value): 0.6-1.3 Nm.

NOTE
Measure the pinion torque at full rack.

If the measured value is not within the standard value, you must first adjust the position of the lid lock the rack and then check the total pinion torque steering.
If the total pinion torque can not be adjusted, check the cover of the stop, the spring stop and focus the rack and replace parts as needed.

Checking the resistance to rotation of the hinge of steering draft
Take turns 10 strong tie rod.

Measuring the resistance to rotation of the hinge of steering draft

With the help of a spring balance to measure the resistance to the rotation of the hinge tie rod (Fig. 5.38).
Drag torque hinge of steering draft (nominal): 8-22 h (2-5 Nm).
If the measured value exceeds the standard value, replace the tie rod assembly.

ATTENTION
If the measured value is less than the nominal value, but the steering rod rotates smoothly without excessive play, then this tip is suitable for use. If the measured value is less than 4.3 N (1 Nm), replace the tie rod assembly.

Check of a protective cover
Check the dust cover for damage or deterioration.
Check the attachment of a protective cover.
If defects be ob- protective cover, replace it with a new one.
