Removal, check and installation of camshafts

The camshafts of the engine capacity of 1.6 liters
Fig. 2.41. The camshafts of the engine capacity of 1.6 liters

The camshafts of the engine capacity of 1.6 liters shown in Fig. 2.41 on p. 66.

Withdrawal
Disconnect the hose and breather hose PCV valve.

Removing the water pump pulley and the crankshaft
Fig. 2.42. Removing the water pump pulley and the crankshaft

Remove the water pump pulley and the crankshaft pulley (Fig. 2.42).
Remove the timing belt cover.
Loosen the bolt tensioner timing belt, loosen the belt tension and temporarily secure the tensioner pulley.
Remove the timing belt from the camshaft sprocket.
Remove the bolts from the center of the cover and then remove the cover.
Remove the ignition coil assembly.

Cylinder head cover
Fig. 2.43. Cylinder head cover

Unscrew the cylinder head cover and then remove the cover (Fig. 2.43).
Remove the camshaft sprocket.

Removing the covers of bearings of camshafts
Fig. 2.44. Removing the covers of bearings of camshafts

Remove bearing caps and camshaft timing chain (Fig. 2.44).
Remove camshafts.
Remove the lifters.

Check
Check the neck of a camshaft for wear. If the shaft journal is much worn, replace the camshaft.

Checking the protruding portion of the cams of the camshaft
Fig. 2.45. Checking the protruding portion of the cams of the camshaft

Check out the protruding part of the cams of the camshaft for damage. If damaged or cam shaft wear exceeds the permissible value, replace the camshaft (Fig. 2.45).

The height of the cams of the camshaft
Nominal value:
inlet: 43.4484 mm;
Graduation: 43.8489 mm.
Limit:
inlet: 42.9484 mm;
Graduation: 43.3489 mm.
Check the surface of the back of the cams of the camshaft for damage or considerable wear and, if necessary, replace the shaft.
Check the condition of the bed of the camshaft for damage. If the wear of the camshaft bed exceeds the permissible value, replace the cylinder head assembly or the camshaft bearing caps.
Axial backlash of a camshaft: 0.10-0.15 mm

Checking camshaft oil seal
Check the oil seal lip for wear. If the working edge is worn, replace the oil seal.
Check the condition of the surface of the camshaft in contact with the sealing lip gland. If the surface of the shaft is worn, replace the camshaft.

Check the lash

Driving test lifters
Fig. 2.46. Driving test lifters

Fix the surface of ?A? lash filled with engine oil, and then focus on the ?B? lash by hand. If the focus ?B? is moved, replace the tappet (Fig. 2.46).
Other typical defects tappet shown in Table 2.6.

Check timing chain
Check the circuit elements (plugs and plates) for wear. Replace the chain if excessive wear.

Timing Chain
Fig. 2.47. Timing Chain

Setting
Install the hydraulic lifters into place.

The combination of the timing chain sprocket with the camshaft intake and exhaust valves
Fig. 2.48. The combination of the timing chain sprocket with the camshaft intake and exhaust valves

Align the timing chain sprocket with the camshaft intake and exhaust valves, as shown in Figure 2.48.

Installation of camshafts
Fig. 2.49. Installation of camshafts

Apply engine oil to the camshaft bearing neck, then install the camshaft in place (Fig. 2.49).

The identification marks on the bearing caps
Fig. 2.50. The identification marks on the bearing caps

Install the camshaft bearing caps. The identification marks on the bearing caps are designed to identify the location of the cover (the side of the intake / exhaust valve) (Fig. 2.50).
I: intake camshaft.
E: exhaust camshaft.

Order of a tightening of bolts of fastening of covers of bearings of camshafts
Fig. 2.51. Order of a tightening of bolts of fastening of covers of bearings of camshafts

Tighten the camshaft bearing cap covers the nominal torque in two or three steps in the order shown in the figure numbers 2.51.
Tightening torque of bolts fastening the camshaft bearing cap: 12-14 Nm.

Pressing the camshaft oil seal with a special tool
Fig. 2.52. Pressing the camshaft oil seal with a special tool

With a special tool (mandrel seal installer 09221-21000 Camshaft) press-fit the camshaft oil seal (Fig. 2.52).
Make sure that the working edge of an epiploon of a camshaft oiled. Slide the gland on the camshaft sprocket from the timing belt, then with a hammer on the mandrel install the oil seal so that it is flush with the surface.

Install the camshaft sprocket
Fig. 2.53. Install the camshaft sprocket

Place an asterisk (belt) of a camshaft and tighten a bolt of its fastening nominal torque (Fig. 2.53).
Tightening torque bolts camshaft sprocket (belt): 80-100 Nm.
Align the marks on the crankshaft sprocket and the camshaft with the corresponding adjusting labels and install the piston cylinder ?1 at TDC compression stroke.
Install the cylinder head cover.
Tightening torque bolts cylinder head cover: 8-10 Nm.

Install the center cover
Fig. 2.54. Install the center cover

Install the ignition coil assembly, high voltage spark plug wires and the center cover (Fig. 2.54).
Install the timing belt, and then when the roller tensioner will tighten the belt, tighten the fixing tensioner.
Install the timing belt cover.
Tightening torque cover mounting timing belt: 8-10 Nm.
Install the water pump pulley and the crankshaft pulley.
