Overhaul of the transfer case - general information

Overhaul of the transfer case is a complicated procedure for self-fulfillment. It involves disassembly and reassembly correct many small parts and components. It is necessary to accurately measure a lot of gaps and properly corrected by choosing the appropriate size shim and retaining ring. Thus, if there is a need to overhaul the transfer box, its removal and installation may be performed by the amateur mechanic, while the actual repair and restoration should be left service specialist. There is a possibility of purchasing the recovered boxes - consult experts of dealer branch. In any case, the time and cost to repair and restore the old box will be quite comparable to the cost of acquisition of the restored unit.

However, it should be said that the overhaul of the transfer case, even by the inexperienced amateur mechanic is quite possible provided there is a corresponding special tool and accurate and careful approach to the implementation of each of the procedures, when not passed any of even the most minor steps.

Some of the tools required to perform the overhaul of the transfer case includes pliers for removing and installing both internal and external retaining rings, bearing puller, a hammer with sliding brisk, set vykolotok, dial indicator plunger type and possibly a hydraulic press. Furthermore, it is necessary to have a firm, comfortable height workbench equipped with a vise or stand for the dismantling of transmissions.

During disassembly of the transfer case to pay close attention to ways of setting each of the smallest components of its position in relation to other items and the type of fasteners (done through the dismantling of notes). These are accompanying illustrations are intended to help understand the layout of the box - but, drafting of explanatory notes during disassembly still much more reliable guarantees correct assembly.
