The model Mercedes C-Class are row, 4- or 6-cylinder engines.

The engine block of cast iron machined holes of the working cylinders. In the presence of their walls scuffing or scratches, they can be chiseled in a specialized workshop. Therefore, the pistons must be installed in the working cylinder with an interference fit. At the bottom of the engine block is the crankshaft, which is fixed to 5 and 7, the crankshaft bearings. With a sliding bearing rods actuating the pistons connected to the crankshaft. Fastened from below the engine sump, - it is going to engine oil required for lubrication and cooling. Top unit is fastened to the engine cylinder head made of aluminum, which has good thermal conductivity and a much lighter gray iron. The cylinder head is made on the principle of cross-flow. That is, the air-fuel mixture enters at one side of the cylinder head, while the hot gases are pushed from the opposite side. Thanks to the cross-flow gas exchange is performed best. The cylinder head has two camshafts: one for intake and one for exhaust valves. Four valves are provided directly by the camshaft via bucket tappets. Hydraulic bucket tappets provide automatic valves even gap under all operating conditions, allowing adjustment of backlashes of valves within the maintenance is not required.

Engine lubrication oil pump provides. He strengthened ahead of the cylinder block and is driven by an additional roller chain. Sucks oil from the sump through the holes and channels up to the crankshaft and the camshaft bearings and cylinder sliding surfaces.

The coolant pump in 4-cylinder engines mounted on the front of the engine block, and at 6-cylinder - the side of the engine block. The pump is driven by a ribbed V-belt, which further results in the generator and the power steering pump. Keep in mind that the cooling circuit must be filled each year with fresh mixture of antifreeze and anticorrosive agent based on decalcified water.

For the preparation of a flammable fuel-air mixture is completely electronically controlled fuel injection and ignition device, which requires virtually no care.
