Mercedes C-Class is equipped with in-line, 4-or 5-cylinder diesel engine. In diesel engines, the cylinder is sucked clean air and subjected it to strong compression. Due to this in-cylinder temperature is increased to the ignition temperature of diesel fuel (600 ?° C). When the piston is near top dead center, fuel is injected into the compressed air and ignites spontaneously, so no need for spark plugs. But in a very cold engine compression can lead to ignition temperature. Therefore, for heating in each swirl chamber is a glow plug of a diesel engine, which is powered by the voltage supplied through the relay preheating. The fuel pump (pump injector) receives fuel from the transfer pump. Diesel fuel is supplied to the fuel pump, which creates the need for its injection of high pressure (100-125 bar). Fuel pump regulator controls the amount of fuel injected in accordance with the actuation of the accelerator pedal. At the right moment the fuel is injected through nozzles into the mixing chamber of the corresponding cylinder. Before the fuel goes into the fuel pump, it passes through the heat exchanger. There are pre-warmed fuel to not greatly concentrated and did not create traffic jams in the fuel lines and filters. The fuel filter traps mechanical impurities and water, and so it is extremely necessary to change the filter in accordance with the instructions for maintenance. Fuel and Fuel pump does not require maintenance. Both pumps are driven by the crankshaft via a control circuit that drives the camshaft as well. The hole in the cylinder head provides lubrication of each of the two pumps with engine oil.
