Fuel supply

Distributor-type injection pump

Fuel pump at the injection pump of the distribution type draws oil through the fuel heat exchanger and the fuel filter (Fig. 4.88). To remove air throttle is in the pump casing. For reliable operation, the diesel fuel in winter conditions (this is usually the temperature to -25 ? C) is preheated. The heating system consists of the fuel heat exchanger with the thermostat on the cylinder head. The thermostat operates as follows: full heating - if the fuel temperature to +18 ? C, mixed mode - from +18 to + 30 ? C (oil temperature).
Fuel filter consists of a metal body, which is inserted into the paper filter (with very small pores). Strainer located on the side.
Fuel pump - vane pump is built into the pump. The pump housing is located eccentrically to the drive shaft. The volume under the blades are not the same. The largest volume of fuel supplied through the inlet. Fuel is forced into the discharge nozzle vane pump. If the motor is rotated at a speed of more than 5000 min -1, the supply pressure using a pressure regulating valve with a piston and spring is limited to approximately 8 bar. Supply pressure should be at the highest possible and constant, the various hydraulic components supplied with the pump properly. When starting the engine is removed from the air independently of the fuel system through the pump and throttle. When starting the engine starter motor must rotate without interruption until the engine will not start, or does not happen venting.

The fuel pump is mounted on the flange (Fig. 4.89). He sucks the fuel through the fuel heat exchanger and the fuel filter. To remove air from the reactor is a return valve in the pump suction area.

A WARNING
Fuel Handling
Working with dangerous fuel. Therefore, work carefully when service or repair the fuel system. Be especially careful when draining fuel from the tank.
1. Disconnect the battery, make sure that the cables can not touch the battery terminals.
2. Drain the fuel tank is not in place. For this you need the appropriate device (for example, a hose with a contracting pear). In no case do not drain the fuel through the opening sensor reserve fuel or fuel sucking mouth through a hose - perhaps poisoned by highly additives.
3. Under the arm to be carbon dioxide or foam fire extinguisher.
4. Do not pour fuel into the pit. Evolved from the fuel gases are heavier than air and will accumulate at the bottom of the pit. Consequences: gassing and explosion hazard.
5. Make sure that the area near the area of operation and no appliances included, An open fire, sources of heat or sparks.
6. Drain the fuel in the container tightly closed by special protection from fire and pressure equalization valve.
7. The fusion fuel tank are couples. They are also very dangerous. So work with extreme caution.

Preheating the fuel system includes a fuel heat exchanger with a thermostat mounted on the cylinder head. For reliable operation, the diesel fuel in winter conditions, it must be pre-heated. The thermostat operates as follows: full heating - if the fuel temperature up to + 18 ? C, mixed mode - from +18 to + 30 ? C. Fuel filter consists of a metal body, inside which is inserted a filter paper.

Check the fuel system for leaks
If the vehicle is parked in zone smell diesel fuel, so the fuel somewhere extends outwardly. To search for loose connections put a Mercedes parked overnight on a dry, clean place.

SEQUENCE OF WORK
"30,000 km"
1. Check to see if the spot under the car.
2. If stain is not, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
3. Stop the engine. Again, check if there are any spots.
4. If the stain is not, check all pipes and components of the fuel system on the characteristic smell of diesel fuel.
