The engine management system

On petrol engines are installed following control systems:
4- and 6-cylinder in-line engines HFM;
Engines V6 Motronic ME 2.0;
V8 4,2 liter engine Motronic ME 1.0;
V8 5,0 liter engines HFM.

Elements of the electronic control system HFM
Fig. 5.36. Elements of the electronic control system HFM: 1 - ignition coil 2 and third cylinder; 2 - nozzle; 3 - the ignition coil 1 and 4 of the cylinder; 4 - the executive body of idle speed control; 5 - intake air temperature sensor; 6 - the gauge of detonation; 7 - crankshaft position sensor; 8 - the camshaft position sensor; 9 - Hall sensor; 10 - coolant temperature sensor

On gasoline engines with injection system, the air-fuel mixture into the combustion chamber, has a precise dosage depending on the operating conditions, which ensures low fuel consumption as opposed to gasoline engines. Because of the fuel metering and the use of a controlled catalytic converter reduces the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases. Self-diagnostic control system has a memory, provides rapid troubleshooting by reading fault codes. The electronic control unit (ECU) engine determines the optimal time of fuel injection and the amount thereof. ECU is in constant interaction with other vehicle electronic devices, such as the control unit of an automatic transmission. The elements of the engine control system shown in Fig. 5.36 retain their performance during the whole life of the vehicle and does not require additional maintenance.
Work on the diagnosis and repair of engine management systems require special devices, so they should be in the garages.
