Check the oil level is best at each refueling. The dipstick is known to be located in front of the engine side. In Fig. 117 and 118 shows the location of the probe on both types of engines.
Check the engine oil level as follows:
- To put the car on level ground;
- After stopping the engine, wait at least 5 minutes, until the oil to drain into the sump. It is better to check the oil level to the exit still cold engine;
- Remove dipstick - Be careful when the engine is hot! Wipe it with a cloth-free cloth or paper towel. Paste back all the way, wait a little and then pull out;
- On the scale of the probe you can determine the level of oil. If it is between the two divisions, all right;
- If the level is below the lower division or warning light oil level, you need to add oil.
The volume of oil between the upper and lower divisions of the probe corresponds to 2 liters. Thus, if the oil level is in the lower third of the scale or warning light, convenient to use for topping one liter canister. When topping up of the five-liter cans use a funnel. Oil is filled through the neck of a head cover of the engine block.
When calm manner of driving the oil level may be in the bottom third of the scale. When active driving or towing a trailer, it is recommended to maintain the oil level is closer to the upper division. A larger volume of oil is better cool the engine.
You can not pour too much oil. The oil level must not exceed the MAX mark on the dipstick. Therefore it is better not to try to fill the oil exactly to the top division. Excess oil is consumed faster and contributes to excessive carbon formation.

Note
Oil probes of different engines are different and not interchangeable. Therefore, if you need to replace the probe, pay attention to the type of engine. Pens oil probe marked color.

Can I mix oil?
Stamps oils of different manufacturers can be mixed without any danger, it also applies to seasonal and year-round oil. This compatibility without causing harmful effects is a basic requirement of international standards. The specific characteristics of the individual marks by mixing oils may vary slightly because each brand is using its combination of additives. However, the basic characteristics of lubricant is not affected.
The exceptions are some synthetic and semi-synthetic oils, which are also not on the list recommended for use by Mercedes. Upon mixing them with the oil in the engine may cause unsuitable combination which can cause engine damage.
