System of preheat of the diesel engine

On a cold diesel engine, when compressed air in the cylinders required for auto-ignition temperature of the fuel is not achieved. For this reason, Preheat is required.

With this purpose in each combustion chamber is set glow plug. Glow plug consists of a body with an embedded heating element into it. Heating element, in turn, consists of heating coils and adjusting the helix. After the voltage in the heating coil heats the rod for a few seconds to a temperature of + 850 ? C. Thus the current flowing through the candle reaches 30A. By increasing the heat resistance of the coil increases, which limits the current to 15 - 25 A. When the preheat indicator lamp on the instrument panel goes out, the engine can be started.

Preheat time required for starting the engine is not more than 10 seconds. Time regulated preheat relay and engine control unit, through which the coolant temperature sensor receives information about the current engine temperature. The engine control unit on the basis of the information shall decide on the duration of the inclusion of the glow plug and the required heating current.

On the diesel engine with direct injection Preheat is required only at temperatures below 0 ? C.
