Disassembly and assembly of power steering pump



Remove the drive pulley. Remove the cover, which is attached with four screws.

Remove the stator 2 (Fig. 6.11), and the two pins 1, retaining the stator against rotation. Remove the rotor blades 3, and then distributing disc, sealing rings and spring. Remove bearing retaining ring mounted in the pump housing, and press out the shaft. Remove the collar with a screwdriver and remove the pressure reducing valve.
Before assembly, check the condition of the parts removed. Replace parts with traces of scoring, wear, or deformed. Replace oil seal in the pump housing. The surface of the parts before installation grease actuating fluid amplifier.
Press in the shaft, tighten the outer ring of the bearing retaining ring. Replace the spring and distributing disc with two new O-rings. Put on the rotor shaft. The surface of the rotor, which is marked (see. Arrow in Fig. 6.11), should be facing toward the drive pulley. Install the two pins 1 in the pump casing, then insert the stator 2. Notches for tapered pins on the stator. The stator should be located so that the narrow portion of the slots facing toward the drive pulley. Replace the cover gasket, and then tighten the bolts to torque. Install the drive pulley, the pump on the engine, put the drive belt and adjust its tension. Bleed the power steering system.
