Checking oil pressure
Engine oil pressure can be checked using a pressure gauge with an adapter that can be screwed in place of the oil pressure switch. The engine is equipped with alarms connected to the second oil pressure switch. If the oil pressure drops below 0.3 bar, the oil pressure switch 0.3 bar closes, while warning lamp insufficient oil pressure in the engine lubrication system. If the oil pressure falls below 0.2 bar, a speed greater than a second is equal to 2000 min-1, the oil pressure switch is triggered at 0.9 bar. The indicator lamp is insufficient oil pressure in the engine lubrication system, and an alarm sounds. Oil Pressure Switch 0,3 bar is located in the cylinder block and has a brown insulation; oil pressure switch 0.9 bar is located at the top of the filter cap. When controlling both switches should be checked, but it is possible only to establish whether these switches at all or not. Checking the work of both the oil pressure switch is carried out in the workshop; - Check and Adjust the oil level; - Switch on the ignition. Must break the oil pressure warning lamp, - Run the engine oil pressure warning lamp should go out; - Disconnect the cable from the oil pressure switch 0.3 bar [30 kPa] (oil pressure switch with brown insulation), and set the end of the cable to the "masses." Must light up the oil pressure warning lamp; - Install the plug connector; - Disconnect the electrical connector from the oil pressure switch 0.9 bar [90 kPa] (oil pressure switch with white insulation). - Run the engine for more than 1 second at a speed of 2,000 min-1. Must light up the oil pressure warning lamp and horn work.

Described operations to check the oil pressure switch, allow us to establish that the oil pressure switch undamaged and well-run. To check the oil pressure gauge Volkswagen used the recommended procedure for 1342. This action or a similar device is shown on Fig. 458: - Disconnect the oil pressure switch 0.9 bar [90 kPa] (white insulation) and install a pressure gauge; - Connect a pressure gauge in place of the oil pressure switch at the base of the filter; - Disconnect the wire from the insulation of the brown oil pressure switch 0.9 bar [90 kPa], and connect the blue wire 1; - Connect warning lamp 2 to the cable 1 and to terminal "+" AB; - Connect the brown cable 3 gauge weighing; - Switch on the ignition; - Start the engine. As soon as the pressure gauge indicates a pressure of 0,15-0,45 bar [15-45 psi] warning lamp should go out. Otherwise, replace the oil pressure switch to the new one. The procedure for checking the oil pressure switch 0.9 bar [90 kPa]: - Disconnect the wire 1 (Fig. 458) from the oil pressure switch 0.3 bar [30 kPa] and connect it to the oil pressure switch 0.9 bar [90 kPa] (oil pressure switch with white insulation). - Start the engine, and gradually increase the speed. If the pressure of not less than 0.75-1.05 bar [75-105 psi] warning light does not illuminate, replace the oil pressure switch; - Increase the engine speed to 2000 min-1 - the pressure should be at least 2.0 bar [200 psi]. Replace or repair the oil pump when the oil pressure is less than or falls below 0.2 bar [20 kPa].
