Removing and installing exhaust manifold

Elements of the front of the exhaust system
Fig. 100. Elements of the front of the exhaust system: 1 - Screen thermal motor protection; 2 - an exhaust manifold consisting of two parts; 3 - lifting eye; 4 - nut 40 Nm; 5 - Screen thermal motor protection; 6 - a nut screen thermal protection; 7 - a lining, to replace; 8 - a reception pipe; 9 - nut 10 Nm; 10 - socket for connecting the EGR, 35 Nm

Exhaust manifold 2 (Fig. 100) consists of two parts and has two separate manifold gasket 7. The threaded connector 10 for connecting the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).
The exhaust manifold can be removed after the screen will be removed heat shield 5 and disconnected both receiving tube 8.
Install the exhaust manifold is carried out in the reverse order of removal, thus observe the following guidelines:
- Always replace the gasket between the engine and the exhaust manifold. When installing a new gasket, take care that it has been installed in the correct position;
- Always replace self-locking nuts securing the exhaust manifold 4 to the engine. They should be tightened to 40 Nm;
- Replace the gasket between the front exhaust pipe 7 and half of the exhaust manifold. Nuts connecting the exhaust manifold and intake pipe are caulking, and so they should always be replaced. Tighten the nuts to 40 Nm.

Elements of the middle part of the exhaust system (located between the receiving pipe and silencer catalyst)
Fig. 101. Elements of the middle part of the exhaust system (arranged between the receiving pipe and the muffler catalyst): 1 - a nut thermal protection screen; 2 - Screen thermal protection; 3 - the direction of the first muffler; 4 - catalyst; 5 - a protective collar; 6 - Screen thermal protection; 7 - bolt 10 Nm; 8 - a protective collar; 9 - a bolt 10 Nm; 10 - nut 40 Nm; 11 - lambda probe; 12 - plug connector black

Catalyst 4 (Fig. 101) is set after the reception pipe. It looks like a "swollen" silencer consists of a large number of metal or ceramic honeycomb, which are covered with platinum or similar metals. Through these cell exhaust gases pass. Platinum accelerates the chemical reaction in which noxious waste gases are converted into harmless gases. Installed upstream of the catalytic oxygen sensor 11 continuously measures the amount of harmful CO gas contained in the exhaust gas, and sends the ECU information in the form of electrical signals on the basis of which the desired adjustment, ie a change in the composition of the fuel mixture.
