Removing the timing

Timing VR6 engine
Fig. 16. The timing VR6 engine

Elements of the valve timing
Fig. 91. Elements of the valve timing: 1 - an intermediate shaft; 2 - leading ring; 3 - bolt 10 Nm; 4 - wheel drive sensor; 5 - bolt 10 Nm; 6 - bolt 25 Nm; 7 - an elastic element tensioning devices; 8 - two-row chain tensioner, 20 Nm; 9 - Double-row chain; 10 - two-lane drive sprocket chain; 11 - single-row chain drive sprocket; 12 - chain tensioner shoe; 13 - sprocket chain drive built into the crankshaft; 14 - Single-row chain; 15 - Strap pacifier; 16 - Special bolt 25 Nm; 17 - finger with collar, 25 Nm; 18 - damper; 19 - bolt 20 Nm; 20 - Stars crankshafts

Before removing the main parts of the valve timing (see. Fig. 91), remove all devices and components, located on the front of the engine to remain unremoved only elements of the valve timing (see. Fig. 16).
Before removing the elements of the valve timing should be put first cylinder to TDC, and after removal of the two strands of the valve timing in any case can not be scrolled crankshaft Remove cylinder head, as this may lead to a stroke of the piston valves.

Places labeling circuit timing (indicated by arrows)
Fig. 92. Designated marking timing chains (indicated by arrows)

Before removing the label the color circuits in places (Fig. 92) to remember the direction of the chains.
To reduce the tension two-lane circuit 9 (see. Fig. 91) the timing, loosen and remove the chain tensioner 8.

Hexagons to fix the camshaft in a fixed position (shown by arrows)
Fig. 93. Hexagons to fix the camshaft in a fixed position (shown by arrows)

To remove the two-row chain, you must first remove the sprocket 20 (see. Fig. 91) located on one of the camshaft sprocket or take 10 to an intermediate shaft. In both cases, turn out bolts of fastening of an asterisk 5. When loosening and tightening the bolts of both stars camshafts must be locked in a fixed position. For this purpose, hold the camshaft using a spanner "24 mm" is worn by one of the hexagons (Fig. 93).
Remove the bolt 5 (see. Fig. 91), remove the chain sprocket 11-row with single-row chain valve timing. Remove all remaining parts of the valve timing (see. Fig. 91). During assembly it is important to observe the recommended order of operations.
