Removing and installing steering column
Withdrawal Set the wheels straight.
ATTENTION Before working on the equipment, and the steering wheel is necessary to follow these conditions. Remove the negative terminal of the battery Wheels should stand straight. Failure to follow these instructions can result in failure of the airbag system in a subsequent operation. |
Selector lever, set to "N?� and switch off the ignition. Remove the cover in the footwell on the driver's side. Remove the steering column control. Raise the vehicle. If present, remove the shield from the steering mechanism (2 screws). Remove the bolt of the universal joint of the steering mechanism and remove the joint from the steering mechanism. Carefully insert the lower shaft into the upper shaft until it stops.
Vehicles with 10-cyl. Diesel Remove the steering gear and slide to the left.
Continuation of the assembly operations for all vehicles
On vehicles with certain engine variants, the top nuts are also available from the top of the engine compartment. Remove the brake light switch.
On vehicles with electric steering column, remove the plug 1 (Fig. 5.4). Disconnect the other connectors and remove the wires from the holder of the right and left of the steering column.

Remove the bolt 1 and the end of the bolt 2 (Fig. 5.5). Carefully remove the steering column. The upper part of the steering column can not be separated from the bottom with no markings. If the gearing will not take its original position, then the further operation of this can lead to vozniknveniyu knocks. If necessary, remove the sealing sleeve.
ATTENTION Attachment 1 is not allowed to shoot (Fig. 5.6). It serves as protection during transport. |
Setting Install in reverse order, with the following should be considered. When replacing the mechanical steering column must be replaced as a handle for its adjustment. Install the steering column on the crossbar. Insert and tighten the screws on the opposite hand. Tighten the screws.
Tightening sequence

Bolts 1 to 4 in the tightening torque of the sequence represented in Figure 5.7. Then tighten the nut 5 torque. Install the universal joint on the steering gear and tighten. Properly install and tighten the sealing sleeve. When installing a new steering column, you must use tester VAS 5051, follow the adaptation of the electric steering column lock. For this mode ?�Gefuehrte Funktionen / Guided functions", first select the system ?�Wegfahrsicherung / alarm" and then ?�Anpassung der ELV / Adaptation of the electric steering column lock." Then perform basic setting steering angle sensor sender G85 via tester VAS 5051.
Tightening torques Universal joint to the steering mechanism (use new screw) - 40 Nm + 90 ?�. The screen on the steering mechanism (if available) - 10 Nm. The steering column to the cross beam (use a new nut - 20 Nm Seal the front wall - 4 Nm.
