Check and backlash steering



Observe the following procedure for verification:
- Start up the engine and set the wheels in position for rectilinear movement, mark the position of the steering wheel (on the rim);
- Slowly turn the steering wheel from left to right, mark the position of the steering wheel when the wheels begin to turn;

- If the play of the steering wheel is greater than 30 mm, check the play in the joints (Fig. 7.24);

- If necessary, replace worn parts; If the play is, check the play of the steering mechanism: Set the wheels for rectilinear movement and turn off the engine; attach to the steering wheel moment of 5 Nm; Backlash steering should not exceed 10 mm (Fig. 7.25);
- If the play of the steering mechanism is greater than 10 mm, check and adjust the preload on the pinion.
