1. Check the coolant level, check the belt tension and the functioning of the temperature sensor. |
2. If the engine is warming up too long, it is likely that the thermostat is stuck in the open position. Replace the thermostat. |
3. If the engine overheats, check the temperature of the upper radiator hose if the hose is not hot, so the thermostat is stuck in the closed position. Replace the thermostat. |
4. To conduct a more thorough check is necessary to remove the thermostat from the engine. |
5. If the thermostat is not closed at room temperature, then it is defective and should be replaced. |
6. Lower the thermostat in a container of cold water (thermostat closed). |
| 7. Heat the water in the tank and watch its temperature. The thermostat should not touch the sides and bottom of the container. |
8. Record the thermometer when the thermostat only starts to open and when it is fully open. Compare the values with the specifications. |
9. Replace the thermostat if it does not open or closed or jammed in any position. |
