Check and replacement of spark plugs, check the status of high-voltage wires (petrol models)

Refer to the materials appropriate section Systems of an electric motor.

Replace the spark plugs only in a cold or slightly warm engine. If candles are turned on the hot engine could be damaged thread cylinder head made of light metal.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Spark plugs, depending on the type, are replaced every 96 000 km or 160 000 km. Before you start, prepare all the necessary tools (some manufacturers of spark plugs deliver special tools to measure the clearance of plugs)

? Candlestick key 16 mm, for example, HAZET 900AKF. Mercedes-Benz service stations are used for this purpose a candle key 3122V.
? In addition, it is recommended to buy special pincers, for example, HAZET 1849 which facilitate turning away the candles. Mercedes-Benz applies for this mounting key 3277A.
? Depending on the number of cylinders of the engine the necessary amount of spark plugs. Applied spark plug listed in the Specifications. For each cylinder spark plug 2 is used.

  2. The best way to replace the spark plug is pre-purchase of new candles, adjustment of the gap and replacement of each candle in turn. When buying candles is very important to choose those candles that are designed for the engine of your car. Information on them is shown in the Specifications.
  3. Having a handy new candles, allow the engine to cool completely before removing the old ones. During this time, you can see the new candles for the presence of defects and check spark plug gap.
  4. Candle backlash is checked by inserting the desired thickness gauge between the electrodes at the end of a candle. The gap should correspond specified in Specifications. The wire should only relate to each electrode. If the clearance is not correct, slightly turn in a curved portion of the electrode via a knurled knob until the desired size of the gap.

When adjusting the backlash of a new candle bends only the base electrode weight, without affecting the end. When the electrode mass is offset relative to the center electrode via a regulator with notches align them. Check the porcelain insulator for cracks, indicating that the candle should be replaced.

  1. Compare taken out a candle to those in the photo in the spark plugs - this will give you useful information about the general state of the engine.
  2. Check the probe electrode spacing. The required value of the gap is provided in the Specifications.

In new spark electrode spacing is usually set correctly.

  1. If the thread is damaged spark, it must be replaced. To do this, there is a corresponding tool and repair kit, for example, BERU. Using a special drill can be completed old threaded hole. Cylinder heads for this should not be removed. Thereafter, the cylinder head can be cut and a new thread with a special threaded insert screwed into the candle. Threaded inserts sit securely and tightly.
  2. To set the distance between the contacts corresponding to the turn in the mass electrode. To do this, tap the side of the reference electrode. When podgibaniem lean a small screwdriver on the edge of the thread. In no case do not lean on the central electrode as it can be damaged.
  3. Apply a little copper-containing composition antiprihvatyvayuschego to thread the new spark. Install the spark in the cylinder head and replace it with your fingers until it stops, then tighten the head using a spark plug wrench. If possible, use a torque wrench tighten the spark to make sure that it is installed correctly. Tightening torque of candles included in the specifications.

To avoid the possibility of screwing the threaded candle is not put on her tail a small piece of rubber hose or plastic tubing. Flexible tube will act as a universal - the universal joint, allowing the alignment relative to the candle candlestick socket, and if the skew starts candle, the hose will slide on it, preventing cross threading.

  1. Before connecting to the spark of high voltage (IV) of the wire (models with separate coils) carefully inspect it for damage, corrosion of the contact and measure the resistance. If it is much higher than 30 ohm / meter - replace the whole set of wires.
  2. Connect a wire to set a new candle, again using a rotary motion and holding the connector until it is put on a candle to the end.
  3. Repeat the above procedure for the remaining spark plugs in series in order to avoid incorrect connection of candle wires explosives.
