Offered recommendations assume independent performance of procedures of service of the car by its owner unlike the works carried out by a workshop executive branch of the company Mercedes-Benz. While this chart is based on the recommendations of the manufacturer, the interval between the majority of procedures, at the discretion of the owner of the car can be reduced, for example, inspection and replacement of lubricants and fluids should be made at intervals providing the maximum service life of the engine or drive. In addition, if the owner is interested in the car to keep it in a state of maximum readiness for operation in case of a possible resale, many procedures can be performed more frequently. The drafters of this Guide can only welcome this initiative.

Initial service and check of the new car should be carried out by a workshop executive branch of the company Mercedes-Benz to meet the conditions of the warranty. This service is provided free of charge.

The checks made on a regular basis

Annually

? Replace motor oil and oil filter (see. Section Replacement of impellent oil and the oil filter).

? Check the levels of other working fluids in the engine compartment tanks (see. Section Check of levels of liquids, the control of leaks).

Every 2 years

? Check the condition of the chassis components, carrying and bearing body elements.

Every 3 years

? Replace the coolant.

? Clean and lubricate the guide grooves and slides the cover of the top hatch.

? Replace the batteries autonomous power system emergency call TeleAid (with appropriate equipment).

After the first 48 000 km or 4 years of operation (once) - only diesel models

? Check the timing adjustment (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust system and system of electric motor).

Every 72 000 km or every 4 years

? Replace the spark plugs on the ML 230 (see. Section Check and replacement of spark plugs, check the status of high-voltage wires (petrol models)).

Every 96,000 km or every 4 years

? Replace the fuel filter (petrol models) / main and preliminary fuel filter (diesel models) (see. Section Checking the power supply system, replacement of the fuel filter).

? Replace the filter element air cleaner - do not forget to clean the inside of the air cleaner housing (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust).

? Check the condition of accessory drive belt (see. Section Checking multirebernyh accessory drive belt), - in case of need make replacement (see chap. Engine).

? Replace the cabin air filter, pre-carbon filter.

? Check the condition of the sealing elements of the fuel filler.

Every 160,000 km or every 4 years

? Replace the spark plugs on petrol models except ML 230 (see. Section Check and replacement of spark plugs, check the status of high-voltage wires (petrol models)).

The procedures performed in accordance with the standard list of activities of maintenance (in accordance with the display system ASSYST)

List A: The procedure is performed if the mileage since the last service in the list is less than 22 000 km.

List B: The procedure is performed if the mileage since the last service in the list of more than 22 000 km.

Initial service performed in the list (the full amount of work)!

? Through the openings in the wheel drives right to vote residual thickness of the friction brake linings.

? Through an opening in the front wheel drive of the right to vote residual thickness of the brake disc.

? Evaluate the degree of wear and general condition of the tire, measure the depth of the residual tread pattern, in case of need make replacement / rotation of the wheels.

? Check tire inflation pressure, if necessary, make appropriate adjustment.

Engine bay

Be careful when working in the engine compartment - activation of the cooling fan may occur in order for an additional 30 seconds after the engine is switched off!

The electronic ignition system, generated by very high voltage! Be careful, take all necessary precautions when servicing any of the system components, including not only the main (ignition module, coil and BB wiring), but also related, such as a spark plug connector, tachometer and other connectable diagnostic equipment. Particular care should be observed when the engine is running at the time of its launch, with the ignition (key in position 2) and cranking manually. People with implanted pacemakers have access to the service components of the ignition system must not!

Description of the procedure of opening the hood given in Section Access to the engine compartment.

The appearance of the engine compartment is shown in the illustrations.
