Engine

Engine 4.2 l

general information
Engine refers to the 6-cylinder in-line units with overhead valve mechanism (ohv), a cross-flow cylinder head made of aluminum alloy, cast iron crankcase.

Crankshaft is set in seven main bearings, six of which are persistent, responsible for the amount of axial play of the shaft.

Pistons are equipped with upper and lower compression ring and 3-cell scraper ring.
Piston fingers have floating landing in heads of rods and pistons tightness tucked in. Securing finger retaining rings provided.

The camshaft rotates in seven bearings and is equipped with built-in distributor drive gear. Camshaft sprockets mounted on its front end. Camshaft drive is carried out from the crankshaft via a chain drive (with chain). Speed - half relative to that of the crankshaft.

By the second circuit is driven by the crankshaft the oil pump.
Grease the timing gears and chains is through a special nozzle is mounted in front of the cylinder block.

The drive is carried out by solid valve lifters, pushrods and cast rods rocker. Rocker put on a common axis and are lubricated via the hole in its pedestals.

Replaceable valve guides pressed into the cylinder head and equipped with valve stem seals, prevent against excessive supply the required amount of oil.

A rotary type oil pump is installed in front of the cylinder block. The cam is located at the rear of the oil pump is driven by the fuel pump. The oil pressure is maintained at a desired level by the spring-loaded pressure relief valve disposed within the oil pump housing.

Crankcase tightly articulated with a dome of coupling / converter of rotation that extends the life of the starter and clutch (on models with Manual transmission). At the bottom of the dome plug coupling is provided, allowing periodically draining moisture accumulating in the crankcase / oil.
