Adjusting the front wheels

When checking the adjustment of the front wheels of the vehicle must be on a flat surface and the tire should be the appropriate Specifications pressure. Before the measurement of convergence, it is important to steering, suspension and wheel hub bearings have been installed properly and had no play. The collapse, run-down and cross-caster wheels are not regulated. If the values measured do not correspond with the desired, it can be assumed that the front suspension details deformed and must be replaced.

When measuring the collapse of the car and run-out should be brought into operation. Furthermore should fill the fuel tank.

Adjustment values are given in the Specifications in the beginning of Chapter.

Wheel alignment

Toe is adjusted after loosening the lock nuts of steering rods longer or shorter track rod. The steering rods have left-hand threads on one side and right-hand thread on the other, so that the middle tube can be rotated left or right to change the adjustment (illustration below).

Offset steering rod. Previously loosen the locknut (1).

If the tie rods were removed, before the adjustment of convergence should be set at a distance of 183.6 mm. The distance is measured between the arrows (see. Illustration below).

Dimension "A" between the steering rods must be adjusted to a predetermined value.

When measuring convergence, proceed as follows:

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Attach the front of the wheels of a suitable template and set the dial to "0". Mark the contact surface with chalk.
  2. Move the car a half turn the wheels forward until the chalk mark will not appear at the rear.
  3. Attach set to "0" pattern to the rear wheels and move the probe. Consider the size of the unit on the scale.
  4. If the size of the rear portion is larger than the front and lies within the limits specified in the Specifications at the beginning of chapters correct adjustment. It should be remembered that the toe can have a negative value (-0.5 mm), without the need for additional adjustment.
  5. To correct the adjustment, loosen the lock nut (see. both track rod and slide the two tie rods to the same value with a wrench. Again measure the convergence and tighten the lock nut with a force of 37 - 46 N ??? m.

Check overrun (pitch axis of rotation)

Coasting can be measured by a conventional goniometer designed for this purpose. Of course, optical instruments more precisely. Angled coasting understand knuckle tilt backward relative to a line drawn upwardly at right angles to the road surface, facing the side of the wheel and the spring strut. If we imagine drawn through spring strut line, it must be held before the front wheel on the road. The illustration below shows the load angle.

Image overrun. The arrow shows the direction of movement.
Image camber. The collapse is measured between the arrows.

The value is given in the run-Specifications in the beginning of Chapter.

If the measurement turns out, that the stick is out of range, check the front suspension for deformation. For example, sharp hit a curb could have a negative impact on the stick.

Check and adjustment of camber

By understanding the collapse angle knuckle outwardly when viewed from the front side of the wheel with respect to a line drawn perpendicular to the road. In the clearly shows the camber angle. Camber can be measured by a conventional device for measuring camber, but optical instruments, of course, more. Camber is measured in degrees and minutes.

If the measurement revealed that the camber angle is out of tolerance, it can be assumed that one or more elements of the front suspension deformed. Check it.

Adjusting the angle of rotation of the wheels

For precise adjustment of the angle of rotation of the wheels front wheels should be set at the rotary disc. The angle of rotation of the wheels is indicated in the Specifications. As can be seen, the angles of rotation of the inner turning wheel and the outer wheel rotation differ. Furthermore there are so-called delta toe angle at which the one wheel is offset by an angle of 20 ?. Only when driving on rough terrain turning angle can be changed. The best way to measure it in the studio.
