The rear hub and hub bearings

Removing the brake drum / disc and hub

Removing the brake drum together with the hub. The outer wheel bearing (1) must hold a finger.

To check bearing rear hubs for wear or damage, set the car on support and taking the wheel on both sides, Push and pull it, as shown in the Excessive movement indicates damage to the bearings. For the second test quickly turn the wheel a few times and notice the noise.

Too big gap at the first check can indicate a bad adjustment of the bearing hub. To determine whether or bearings are too large axial play, it can be verified by unscrewing the rear wheels. To do this, set the dial indicator on the rear axle and install the probe on the outer edge of the brake drum or the outer side of the hub. Move the drum back and forth and take the readings on the display. If the value is greater than 0.05 mm, the bearings should be replaced, so there is no possibility to adjust. Hub bearings require no maintenance. As in the case of withdrawal, the hub and the bearing should be replaced together, for no particular reason it is not necessary to remove the hub.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Beat the grease cap. Rotate the brake drum to uniformly bring down the cap. Wipe off any excess grease from the hub nut.
  2. Remove the cotter pin and nut from loosening the hub nut.
  3. Replace the back of the car on support and remove the wheel.
  4. Unscrew the hub nut.
