Air filter

Replace the air filter element in the following order:

The air filter on the engine with a carburetor and single-point fuel injection system
Fig. 5.8. The air filter on the engine with a carburetor and single-point fuel injection system 1 - the air intake; 2 - the filter housing; 3 - the filter element; 4 - a cover of the filter; 5 - heated air supply pipe; 6 - a collar; 7 - duct; 8 - spring bracket

- Loosen the clamp 6 (see. Fig. 5.8);
- Separate the duct 7 from the filter cover 4;
- Disconnect the spring clamp 8;
- Remove the filter cover and remove the filter element 3;
- Insert the new filter element in place of removal.
Installation Removal of elements made in sequence, return to removal.

Check the heating system air when the engine is started
Heated air supplied to the engine depends on temperature and engine load, and controls the damper disposed in the filter housing. Choke actuated vacuum regulator using intake manifold vacuum. Thermovacuum valve in the air filter housing controls the vacuum depending on the temperature in the intake manifold. Faulty heating systems air leads to:
unstable idle speed after warming up the engine:
reduce the pickup of the car;
reduction of engine power;
increased fuel consumption.

The device of distribution of air when starting the engine equipped with a fuel injection system Digifant
Fig. 5.9. The device of distribution of air when starting the engine equipped with a fuel injection system Digifant: 1 - flow of warm air, 2 - cold air intake, 3 - adapter

Check the heating system air when the engine is started, the fuel injection system equipped Digifant (Fig. 5.9), in the following order:
- Disconnect the hose from the vacuum chamber of the thermostat;
- Remove the air filter cover and remove the filter element. Air regulator hinged flap in the air filter housing is in the position closing the channel supplying the heated air;
- Wear on the union of the vacuum chamber an additional hose and a vacuum is created, with the hinged flap control must be moved and cut channel of cold air;
- Run the engine at idle;
- Connect extension pipe with a brass tube and test the thermostat. Depending on the temperature, the position of the hinged flap regulator twenty seconds must be as follows:
cold air supply is closed, if the temperature is less than 20 ? C;
the hot air is closed, if the temperature exceeds 30 ? C.

The device of distribution of air when starting the engine equipped with a fuel injection system Mono-Jetronic
Fig. 5.10. The device of distribution of air when starting the engine equipped with a fuel injection system Mono-Jetronic: 1 - warm air supply duct; 2 - channel cold air; 3 - the thermostat; 4 - vacuum chamber

Check the heating system air when the engine is started, equipped with fuel injection Mono-Jetronic (Fig. 5.10), in the following order.
Checks are made on a cold engine, with an air temperature of 40 ? C.
- Remove the air filter cover and remove the filter element;
- Make sure that the damper moves freely and on a cold engine shuts off the warm air;
- Run the engine to idle and check that the valve is moved and blocked the flow of cold air;
- If the valve does not move, unplug the line from the thermostat 3 and connect them together;
- If the supply of heated air does not occur, defective vacuum chamber 4. If the valve shuts off the cold air, the thermostat is faulty.
- With the engine, the throttle position control thermostat is set. At temperatures below 35 ? C, the regulator must be opened and closed by intake of cold air. When the air temperature over 45 ? C, the regulator has to close and open the flow of cold air.

The device of distribution of air when starting the engine equipped with fuel injection systems K-Jetronic and KE-Motronic
Fig. 5.11. The device of distribution of air when starting the engine equipped with fuel injection systems K-Jetronic and KE-Motronic: 1 - channel cold air; 2 - channel flow of heated air

Check the heating system air when the engine is started, equipped with fuel injection systems K-Jetronic and KE-Motronic (Fig. 5.11), in the following order:
- Remove the air filter cover and remove the filter element;
- Move the cover to the side so you can see the air damper control;
- Run the engine at idle;
- At a temperature below 20 ? C, the flap should completely cover the arrival of cold air;
- At a temperature over 30 ? C, the damper must rotate and close the heated air flow;
- If the valve is not working, check that it is not jammed.
