Check the ignition system KE-Motronic

The control unit has a memory damage, which works with the ignition. Defect information is stored in permanent memory which may be cleared after the elimination of defects. Other damage is stored in the additional memory that retains information even after the ignition is switched off, but is automatically reset when you turn on the engine.
Reading data on the damage can be made via the LED Tester.

The control unit Digifant
Check Digifant control unit in the following order:

LED tester to test the ignition system KE-Motronic
Fig. 6.25. LED tester to test the ignition system KE-Motronic: A - black connector; B - brown or white connector;
C - blue connector; D - test connector; 1 - test leads

- Prepare the LED Tester (Fig. 6.25);
- Check the fuses 15 and 18. Turn off the air conditioner and check the reliability of fastening earthing cylinder head;
- Start the engine and take a test drive of at least 5 minutes, and the engine speed should be at least 3000 min-1. During the trip, several times for a short time, press the accelerator pedal all the way;
- Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature and allow the engine to idle. Do not increase the engine speed during the next test;
- If the engine does not run the starter for 6 seconds, leave the ignition is switched on;
- Remove the trim gear lever with a central console. The connectors are placed in front of the gear lever, under the console;
- Connect the tester between the test connector, except the contact D. Turn the ignition switch and connect the wires to the terminal D is not more than 4;
- Count the number of flashes of the LED Tester. Flash start glow duration - 2.5 s and pause, continuing with 2.5, followed by pulses followed by 0.5 seconds. Count the number of flashes in each group of signals and as a result get a number with four digits. If the damage is not stored in the memory, will be given the code 4444 (four groups of four the flash).

Ignition coil
Check the ignition coil in the following order:
- Disconnect the electrical wires and remove the cover from the ignition coil;

Check the resistance of the secondary winding of the ignition coil
Fig. 6.17. Check the resistance of the secondary winding of the ignition coil 1 - the ignition coil; 2 - terminal plug 1 (-); 3 - Terminal 4 (HT); 4 - terminal 15 ()

- Connect the tester between the terminals 1 (-) and 15 () (see. Fig. 6.17) and check the resistance of the primary winding of the ignition coil;
- Connect the tester between the terminals 4 (HT) and 15 (+) and check the resistance of the secondary winding of the ignition coil.

The power control unit
Check the power control unit in the following order:

Measure the voltage on pins 1 and 3 of the power control unit
Fig. 6.26. Measure the voltage on pins 1 and 3 of the power control unit

Location of the power control unit ignition
Fig. 6.27. Location of the power control unit ignition: 1 - 4 terminal; 2 - the central wire; 3 - the ignition coil; 4 - an electric socket; 5 - power control unit

- Tighten the locking tabs and disconnect the connector from the power control unit (Fig. 6.26) for the ignition coil electric plug 4 (Fig. 6.27);
- Switch on the ignition and connect a digital multimeter (voltage mode) between the two outer contacts (1 and 3) on the connector. The device should show the battery voltage;
- Connect the LED tester between the terminals 2 and 3 on the connector;
- Turn the engine starter, the LED should blink. Otherwise, check out the Hall sensor;
- Switch off the ignition and reconnect the connector;
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the Hall sensor on the distributor;
- Connect a digital multimeter (voltage mode) between terminals 1 (-) and 15 (+) on the ignition coil (see. Fig. 6.17) and switch on the ignition;
- Using additional wires, connect the center pin electrical connector Hall sensor with "weight". The voltage should increase to 2, then 1-2 to be reduced to zero;
- If the voltage is reduced, install the new power output block or at the board and check the condition of the ignition coil.

Hall Sensor
Check the Hall sensor in the following order:

A WARNING
Verification is necessary only in the absence of sparks.

- Tighten the locking tabs and disconnect the electrical connector from the power output block on the ignition coil;
- Connect the LED tester to the terminals 2 and 3 on the connector;
- Turn the engine starter, the LED should be flashing, indicating that the serviceability of the Hall sensor;
- If the LED is blinking, unplug the electrical connector from the Hall sensor on the valve, and then connect a voltmeter to the two outer contacts on the connector. Ignition device should show a minimum of 9;
- Connect the electrical connector and remove the rubber cover to access the connector contacts;
- Connect the LED tester between the center pin on the connector and the positive (+) terminal battery;
- Turn the engine starter, the LED should be flashing, indicating that the serviceability of the Hall sensor. If there is no illumination, faulty Hall sensor or control unit FEI.

Clear information from permanent memory damage
Check Digifant control unit in the following order:
with the ignition off, disconnect the dedicated cable for the test (see. Fig. 6.25);
Plug the D and slot;
turn the ignition on 4 and verify that the LED lights;
Repeat control by connecting approximately 4 with plug and socket. This should be highlighted code 4444, indicating no damage and reset the memory contents.
