Brushes generator



Replacement of brushes of the generator wire, without removing the generator from the engine.
Replacement of brushes in the following order:
- Disconnect "minus" wire from the battery terminals;

Loosen the screw securing the voltage regulator

- Unscrew the Phillips head screws securing the brush holder and a pressure regulator (Fig. 15.13 and 15.14) on the back of the generator (Fig. 15.15);

- Remove the brush holder and a voltage regulator, while turning it (Fig. 15.16);

- Check the length of graphite brushes which should be not less than 5 mm (Fig. 15.17 and 15.18);

- To replace the carbon brushes need to unsolder the current leads and remove the worn brush and a spring, to set new brush springs into the slot and soldered current-controller so that the length of the brushes is 10 mm. When soldering, avoid contact with the solder on the current feeder, in addition to soldering;
- Check the ease of movement of the brush in the holder;
- Clean slip rings lightly dampened with mineral spirits with a cloth and check the ring for wear and damage;
- Make sure that each brush is moved in the slot smoothly and without jamming.
Installation is made in sequence, return to removal.
