Removal and installation of the cylinder head

WARNINGS
This section describes how to remove the cylinder head with the intake manifold and exhaust manifold assembly. This greatly reduces the removal, but it is necessary to use a lifting device.
On engines with fuel injection system before removing the cylinder head, remove the fuse of the fuel pump of the assembly block of the relay and fuse box. Then, start up the engine and wait for it to stop. This is necessary to reduce the pressure in the injection system.

Removing the cylinder head in the following order:
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery;
- Drain the cooling liquid;
- Disconnect hoses and water hoses on the cylinder head;
- Disconnect and remove high-voltage wires with the Distributor Cap. On engines DOHC remove the ignition distributor to the cylinder head;
- Disconnect and remove the air supply hose between the air filter and the air flow meter and the throttle body;
- Disconnect the hose supplying the warm air from the exhaust manifold;
- Disconnect the hose from the crankcase ventilation cylinder head cover and intake manifold;
- Disconnect the hose of the vacuum brake booster from the intake manifold;
- Label the electrical connector elements fuel injection systems and sensors for their subsequent proper connection, and then disconnect them;
Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body;
- Disconnect the pressure and return lines from the central injection unit (system Mono-Jetronic), the central fuel line (system Digifant), fuel injectors (system K-Jetronic and KE-Motronic) and trigger nozzles ;.
- Disconnect vacuum hoses;
- Remove the cylinder head cover, the top casing of the timing belt and the belt with the camshaft pulley (see. Sect. 3.1.5). The camshaft can not be removed;
- Disconnect the exhaust manifold from a reception exhaust pipe;
- Disconnect wire oxygen sensor;
- Unscrew and remove the protective plate of the timing belt;

The sequence of the bolts fastening the cylinder head
Fig. 3.14. The sequence of the bolts fastening the cylinder head

- Remove the bolts of the cylinder head in the reverse order of their tightening (Fig. 3.14), one turn per pass and remove bolts and washers;
- Remove the cylinder head with the lifting device;
- Remove the cylinder head gasket.
The installation of the cylinder head in the following order:
- Install the cylinder head gasket on the cylinder mounting studs up inscription ?OBEN? or ?TOP?. Before installing, make sure that the gasket corresponds to the model of the engine. Make sure that all the holes align with the gasket of the cylinder;
- Install the cylinder head;
- Install and hand-tighten the bolts of the cylinder head and washers;
- Tighten the bolts of the cylinder head in the order shown in Fig. 3.14, a three-phase torque (Nm)
1st - 40;
2nd - 60;
3rd - tighten 180 ?;
- Set the tappets and the camshaft (camshafts) if they were removed;
- Establish a protective plate of the timing belt, the belt, the lower and upper timing belt cover;
- Connect all removed electrical connectors;
- Connect fuel lines, vacuum hoses of the cooling system;
- Pour coolant;
- Connect a reception exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold;
- Set the ignition distributor on engines DOHC;
- Connect the accelerator cable and check adjustment;
- Check after engine start-tightness of the fuel system, cooling system and exhaust system.
