The basic malfunctions of the engine management system



Before definition of malfunctions, ensure that fuel is available in the fuel tank in sufficient quantity, the engine has no mechanical defects, the battery is charged and the starter turns the engine crankshaft with sufficient speed, the system pre-heating the engine is working, the fuel system is tight and there are no pollution, ventilation hose crankcase clean and earthing of the power unit is securely connected.

Please check for faults recorded in the memory of the engine management system.
CAUSE
SOLUTION
Difficult to start the engine or the engine does not start at all
No system works preheat the diesel engine Check and, if necessary, recover the system of preliminary heating of the diesel engine.
Do not open the fuel shut-off valve Check the fuel shut off valve motor control, and anti-theft system.
A defect in the fuel supply system Check fuel supply to the engine.
Fuel line leaking, blocked or twisted inside Clean and, if necessary, replace the fuel supply pipes.
Clogged fuel filter Replace the fuel filter.
In winter, there is the fuel filter the water or ice Warm up the car in a heated garage.
A blockage in the fuel tank ventilation or dirty fuel filter, located in the fuel tank Clean the ventilation system of the fuel tank or fuel filter.
Incorrectly adjusted fuel injection timing Check and adjust the fuel injection timing.
Faulty fuel injectors Check the fuel injectors.
Faulty high pressure fuel pump Replace the high pressure fuel pump.
The engine runs only at idling speed
Loose fastening of fuel hoses on the high pressure fuel pump and the fuel filter Secure fuel hoses properly.
Improperly connected supply and return fuel hoses on the high pressure fuel pump Check the fuel hose connection.
Excessive consumption
Clogged fuel filter Replace the fuel filter.
Leaky fuel system Check the tightness of the fuel system.
Clogged fuel return pipe Clean the fuel return pipe.
