The steering rods can not be replaced during a steering. Left Tie Rod on a new car unregulated. When it is replaced, you can only install an adjustable tie rod. The mechanism is necessary hamstring. Fig. 239 shows how the tie rods are attached to the rack.
To replace the steering gear necessary to perform the following operations:
- Open the clamping ring on the outside of the cover, which squeeze both ends of the ring, remove the cover from the body of the rack and move it along the track rod is not damaged;
- Loosen the large lock nut on the end of the rack, disconnect the old lateral traction. For this purpose, open-end wrench is used;
- Using the key, loosen the bolt body with a spherical head.
- To bring the rack to the middle position by turning the gear until the rack is not released at both ends to the same length of the body, as shown in Fig. 248.

When installing new steering rods on the rack should spend a few measurements:
- Move the rack in the housing to a position until both ends of the rack will not act exactly on 67.0 mm. Measurements are taken from the edge of the case before the end of the rail, and the resulting size is denoted by a;
- Tighten the lock nut to the end of the rack and screw the tie rod to the position shown in the figure when the dimension b be exactly 69.5 mm. In this case, the size is removed from the edge of the case to the plane of the inner ball joint;
- Tighten the lock nut to 50 Nm and fit cover. Start the clamping ring in the groove and release the ends.
Even if you are two adjustable tie rods, wheel alignment can be adjusted only on the right steering draft.
When you replace the left tie rod to be adjustable to adjust a new tie rod of the same length, which was an old, non-adjustable steering rod. To do this, measure the size between standing upright and facing down the bolt head with the ball and the inner surface of the inner tie rod ball joint. Open appropriately tie rod end and tighten the lock nut 2 (see. Fig. 239) to 50 Nm. Although the new Tie Rod comes already pre-adjusted measurement should nevertheless hold.
When replacing the right (adjustable) steering rod steering mechanism to bring about in the middle position and display size of the method described above to the specified value.
After replacing one of the steering gear control is always a convergence of wheels and, if necessary, to carry out the adjustment (see. Sect. 10.5.1).
