10.3.1. Refitting

If between the pinion and rack steering is too much play, the steering system when the vehicle is pounding. On the contrary, if the gap between the small gear and the rack is too small, the steering is heavy, the steering wheel will not come back alone to the middle position. Described below work carried out at the removed steering. Adjusting the steering system is that the stop rail is moved closer to or further away from it. Adjustment is carried out by an adjusting screw screwed into the end member of the steering mechanism. To find this screw, you need to put the car on support and see the bottom of the steering mechanism. On the left side of the oval with the screw cap in the middle - this adjusting screw. Adjustments operate with the assistant. This will require face head, insert the hinge and an extension cord. The car must be installed on the lifting platform, to have access to the adjustment screw on the underside.

The adjustment should be carried out as follows:

- To establish the car on a lift;

- Set the wheels straight and turn the steering wheel in both directions about 30 ?�. If the steering needs adjustment, you will hear a knock;

- Slowly screwed into the lid of the adjusting screw until the knock disappears. Fig. 240 shows how to install the tool kit consisting of a head end face and pivot insert extension;

- Perform a test-drive. If the steering wheel does not return alone to the middle position, the adjustment screw should be slightly weakened; If the play in the steering wheel can still be felt, tighten the screw a little more.
