Removing and installing exhaust system

The service life of the exhaust system as a whole depends on the conditions in which the vehicle is operated. With frequent short trips there is a significant amount of condensate, and corrosive acids within the muffler, which leads to corrosion inside the exhaust system. Travel long distances at operating temperature and favorable conditions of combustion of the working mixture reduces the content of corrosive substances in the exhaust gases. Furthermore, while combustion to lie inside the exhaust system of foreign bodies due to high temperature.
Corrosion caused by the exhaust system outside of the ingress of water and salt. This may contribute to hitting stones. Free suspension of the engine leads to engine vibrations that are transmitted to the junction of receiving tubes and the rest of the exhaust system.
The exhaust system should be checked at every opportunity, time to notice any damage, prevent or eliminate them. To do this, follow these steps:
- Check for loose fittings on the intake manifold and the attachment points, and do not tighten them with excessive force;

Elements of the rear part of the exhaust system
Fig. 102. Elements rear part of the exhaust system: 1 - The catalyst goes (arrow 3 cm. Fig. 101); 2 - clamp; 3 - nut 40 Nm; 4 - Suspension ring indicates the correct position during the installation; 5 - a nut screen thermal protection; 6 - Screen thermal protection; 7 - Front silencer; 8 - rear silencer; 9 - the distance b = 50 mm; 10 - distance of a = 5 mm

- Check the rubber ring 4 (fig. 102) suspension for brittleness, cracks and other damage, and replace them if necessary;
- With the engine running, plug the end of the exhaust pipe with a cloth. If the engine stalls after a while, the exhaust system is airtight. If you will hear a hissing sound, the exhaust system is not tight;
- If the exhaust system sounds dull, it will soon have to change the muffler.
Install a catalyst presents no difficulties, but at the same time observe the following guidelines:
- Tighten the connection of the exhaust manifold (see. P. 2.10.2);
- Secure the motor thermal protection by means of clamping washers;
- Replace damaged rubber ring suspension exhaust system;
- Always replace the gasket between the receiving tube and the catalyst;
- Before tightening clamps how to connect the pipes. Tighten the nut with the required torque;
- When screwing the lambda probe if it has been unscrewed, put on his thread lubricant ?G5?. Make sure that the lubricant did not get into the slot of the housing lambda probe, as in this case, the probe may not work properly;
- The replacement of parts of the exhaust system should pay particular attention to the gaps a and b (see. Fig. 102). The distance between the holes and the suspension should be at least 5 mm. This applies to the front and rear mufflers. Distance b must be at least 50 mm, ie mounting clip should be moved to the place of the pipe before it is tightened;
- Always use a new nut 40 Nm.
