Removing the toothed belt
The toothed belt can be removed to set the engine, and we'll proceed from this in the following description. Remove the terminal "mass" wire AB.
| Fig. 390. In order to remove the air filter, remove 1 - the hose to the vacuum regulator EGR; 2 - air flow sensor; 3 - an air inlet; 4 - the inlet hose
Remove the air filter, as described (see. Fig. 390).
| Fig. 391. Remove engine cover: 1 - charge air hose; 2 - plug
Remove the cover of the engine and charge air hose. Remove the cover 2 (see. Fig. 391) and the spring clip. Click on the cover in the direction of the arrow to the side and disconnect the hose from the charge air intake manifold 1.
| Fig. 392. Removing the cylinder head cover 1 - a hose; 2 - protective caps; 3 - a spring collar
Remove the cylinder head cover (crankcase ventilation casing remains on cylinder head). Disconnect the hose 1 (see. Fig. 392) from the cylinder cover, loosen the spring collar 3 intake hose and remove the hose. Remove the protective caps 2 (two arrows) and remove the three screws located underneath. Remove the cylinder head cover. To remove the engine it is necessary to lift the engine, remove the front hydraulic engine mounting, engine mount the clamp and remove the timing belt. To do this, fix the engine of the lifting loops and lift it with a lift so as to relieve the engine mount. Remove the engine mount of the hydraulic support (2 screws) and from the yoke of the engine mounting (3 screws). Always ensure that the engine is securely mounted in a hanging position. Lift the front of the vehicle and remove the crankcase. Disconnect the pipe bracket the power steering pump (1 bolt). Remove the engine mount clamp from the front of the engine. After loosening the bolts once lower the car on wheels. Remove ribbed belt and the upper protective cover toothed belt. Disconnect the two clamps and remove the upper timing belt protection.

For further work requires a special tool (VW - 2065A, Ford - 21-105). The tool is a gauge for the adjustment of a camshaft, which is mounted at the flywheel after the engine is located at TDC. Turn the engine so that the marking on the flywheel was in line with the adjustment pin (remove the cap from the top of the gearbox), as shown in Fig. 415. In order to make fine adjustments, do the following work: - Turn the camshaft so that the end of the adjusting gauge located in front of the cylinder head; - Measure the gap on the other side with the help of the probe; - Prepare the probe, the thickness of which is equal to half of the value found and slide it between the gauge and the cylinder head; - Now rotate the camshaft so that the gauge was imposed on the probes;
| Fig. 416. Both the feeler gauge inserted between the adjustment and the surface of the cylinder head
- Push a second probe of the same thickness on the other hand between gauge and cylinder head. The operation is shown in Fig. 416. Place the front of the vehicle on a support in order to be able to reach the bottom of the car. Remove the vibration damper of the crankshaft (4 screws) and the water pump pulley (3 screws). During this operation, these shafts must be secured in a fixed position. Remove the three screws and remove the bottom protection of the toothed belt. Lower the car back to the ground.

To carry out the next step you will again need special tools - 2064 (VW) or 23-047 (Ford), which should be installed, as shown in Fig. 417 on the gear pump in order to fix it in a stationary position. The tool is a stop pin diameter of 15.45 mm, which can be replaced by a round piece of any material. Thrust pin must be inserted through an opening in the pulley pump into the hole of bracket pump. Remove the guide roller toothed belt, located at the top of the toothed timing belt.
| Fig. 418. After the tension roller will be weakened, as shown by the arrow, you can remove the belt
If you plan to install the belt again, on the belt should make a note that should show the direction of its movement. After the nut is unscrewed, release the device for belt tension by turning it to the left. The device releases the belt (Fig. 418, indicated by the arrow) and its tension is weakened. Release the pulley and remove the drive belt from the gear.
