Repair of the oil pump

Greasing system 2.0-liter engine
Fig. 166. Lubrication System 2.0-liter engine: 1 - installation and replace it with a new one; 2 - oil filler cap; 3 - the dipstick to check the oil level; 4 - guide tube probe to check the oil level; 5 - the oil pressure switch to 25 kPa; 6 - oil pressure switch 180 kPa; 7 - return valve 5 Nm; 8 - the plug; 9 - nut 25 Nm; 10 - the base of the oil filter; 11 - O-shaped sealing ring is always substitution; 12 - oil cooler; 13 - the oil filter; 14 - a gear wheel of the oil pump; 15 - a cover of the oil pump with pressure relief valve; 16 - bolt 10 Nm; 17 - bolt 20 Nm; 18 - a bolt of fastening of the oil sump; 19 - O-ring, replace; 20 - the plug to drain the oil; 21 - oil pan; 22 - installation and replace it with a new one; 23 - oil receiver; 24 - the oil guide plate; 25 - installation and replace it with a new

The oil pump is disassembled (VR6)
Fig. 170. The oil pump is disassembled (VR6): 1 - a bolt, always substitution; 2 - pipe oil receiver; 3 - installation and always to replace; 4 - bolt 10 Nm; 5 - O-shaped sealing ring is always substitution; 6 - pump drive shaft; 7 - the oil pump housing; 8 - a bolt with hexagon 25 Nm; 9 - gear oil pump; 10 - a cover of the oil pump with pressure relief valve; 11 - valve pressure reducing valve; 12 - a spring; 13 - screw cap relief valve, 40 Nm

When the oil pump failure in most cases is replaced by a new one. However, it can be disassembled to check and determine whether its worn parts. Since the oil pressure in the oil pump is created by the rotation of interlinked gears, in most cases, the pump can be repaired by replacing the gears, provided that it is not damaged by the body of the pump. The pump cover is a pressure reducing valve, which can be the cause of the fault. To disassemble the pump, depending on the type of engine, management either Fig. 166 (2.0 liter engine) or Fig. 170 (engine VR6).
Dismantling of the oil pump sequence is as follows:
- Remove the bolts from the bottom and the top of the pump casing and remove the pump from the pump casing. On the 2.0-liter engine, remove the pump cover two short bolts;
- Unscrew the two screws 1 (see. Fig. 170) and remove the mounting oil receiver with the gasket 3 from the housing 7 of the oil pump motor VR6. On the 2.0-liter engine uses an O-ring seal 11 (see. Fig. 166). The gasket or O-shaped seal ring should be replaced by new;
- Unscrew and remove the pump cover 10 (see. Fig. 170) with a pressure relief valve body 7;
- Remove the pump casing from the gear shaft and the gear shaft 9 without;
- Pull out the drive shaft of the oil pump 6. The drive shaft has two O-shaped sealing ring 5 (only for motor VR6), which should always be replaced with new ones.
Check of a technical condition of details of the oil pump
After disassembly all parts wash detergent, blow compressed air and do the following:
- Check the working surface of the housing of the oil pump. In the event of deterioration in the locations of nests bearings - the pump housing must be replaced, or may reduce the oil pressure;

Measurement of backlash between the teeth of the gear oil pump
Fig. 171. Measuring backlash between the teeth of the gear oil pump

- Measure using a probe (Fig. 171), the backlash of gears of the oil pump, which should be 0.05-0.20 mm. In case of excess gear or replace the entire pump;

Measuring axial clearance of the oil pump gears
Fig. 172. Measuring the axial clearance of the oil pump gears

- A steel or a steel ruler area (Fig. 172) to measure the maximum axial clearance of toothed gears, which should be in the range 0,06-0,10 mm (VR6 engine) or 0.05-0.15 mm (for the engine 2, 0 L). To measure the axial clearance put on the upper surface of the oil pump body and steel bracket steel ruler and a feeler gauge, measure the distance between the ruler and the end surface of the gears;
- In the case of the oil pump 2.0-liter engine, check the backlash shaft drive gear. If it is, then it is best to replace the pump housing;

Note
Always replace pinion paired detection of damage or wear of the teeth. Typically, signs of wear on the lateral surface of the teeth look like polished shiny surface.

- Tighten the pump cover (engine VR6) in a vise and unscrew the plug 13 (see. Fig. 170), a pressure reducing valve. Remove the valve spring 12 and the valve 11 (the end of the stud flap sits inside the assembly and pay attention to it);
- Check valve and the spring. The pressure at which the valve should open, is (550 ? 20) kPa;
When assembling the oil pump, make sure that the contact surface of the pump housing clean. Before assembly, lubricate all of the oil.
On the VR6 engine, insert the bottom screws 8 (see. Fig. 170) securing the oil pump body, wrap them and tighten to 25 N ? m, and the top screws inserted 4 - 10 N ? m.
On the 2.0-liter engine bolts 17 (see. Fig. 166), tighten to 20 Nm.

Note
Before installing the pump, make sure that the gears rotate easily without binding.

Replace engine oil and lubricate the two O-shaped sealing ring 5 (see. Fig. 170) the pump drive shaft before inserting the shaft into the gear (engine VR6).
Install the new gasket on the flange of the pump housing, replace the pump casing 7 oil receiver 2 with the gasket 3, tighten the new mounting bolts 1 and tighten to 10 N ? m.
Flange oil receiver, which is attached to the crankcase, cover the assembly with sealant AMV 188 001 02 (engine VR6). Apply engine oil to the flap 11 reducing valve and insert the pin into the hole of the pump cover. Install the spring 12 and screw cap 13.
Secure the pump in a vice and tighten the plug to 40 Nm (engine VR6).
