Checking and adjusting the brake pedal position

The correct position of the brake pedal in a free state, and when you press it all the way is one of the criteria to check the functioning of the braking system. At the same time, the pedal position largely ensures the correct operation of the system. If the pedal is on the floor at a distance greater regulatory possibly incomplete disinhibition wheels when the pedal is released (this is usually no free travel). If the pedal is too low, it may reduce the effectiveness of the brakes caused by a decrease in the pedal stroke.
You will need: a ruler, a key "17" pliers.
Checking and adjusting the brake pedal position
Checking and adjusting the brake pedal position
1. Measure the distance from the pad pedal pad to the floor without pressing the pedal. This distance should be 218-228 mm.
2. If the distance from the pad pedal pad to the floor does not meet the specified size, adjust by changing the length of the pusher of the vacuum brake booster. Unplug the pusher of the brake pedal (see. "Replacement of the vacuum amplifier").
Checking and adjusting the brake pedal position
3. Loosen the lock nut 2 forks and hold pusher 3 against rotation, rotate the plug 1 in the desired direction. One turn of the fork changes the position of the brake pedal by about 5 mm.
NOTE
For clarity, the work is shown in the recorded servo. The manufacturer recommends to adjust the pedal to remove the amplifier from the vehicle. However, with sufficient skill and tuning can be performed directly on the vehicle.

4. Check the brake pedal free play, which move the pedal by hand until you stop moving the pedals without resistance. Determine line of free stroke, it should be 3-8 mm. Inconsistency freewheel specified value may be due to the following reasons:
- Increased backlash in the connection plug pushrod amplifier and a pedal which can be due to wear of the plug and pin holes in the fork and the pedal;
- Properly adjust the distance from the pedal pad to the floor in the free state (see. P. 1);
- Incorrectly installed brake light switch (see. "Replacement and adjustment of the brake light switch").

Checking and adjusting the brake pedal position
5. Press the brake pedal to stop and measure the distance from the pedal pad to the floor. This distance shall not be less than 70 mm. The smaller the distance while holding down the pedal until it stops at the correct distance in a free position, indicating the presence of air in the hydraulic brakes or wear limit brake linings. Bleed the (see. "Bleeding brake system hydraulic drive") or replace the brake pads.

A WARNING
If pressed to stop and hold the pedal in this position gradually moves to the floor, it indicates the leakage of fluid from the hydraulic circuit or malfunction of the master cylinder. Such faults are very dangerous - to immediately locate and fix the leak or replace the brake master cylinder!
