Thermostat

Check thermostat
As the engine warms up the thermostat opens the large circuit. If not, the engine overheats. This radiator is cold.

SEQUENCE OF WORK
1. Remove the thermostat, as shown below.

Check thermostat
Fig. 5.30. Check thermostat

2. Measure the size of "a" (Fig. 5.30) thermostat.

The heating thermostat in the tank
Fig. 5.31. The heating thermostat in the tank

3. Lower the thermostat in a container so that it does not touch the walls of the container and slowly heats the water (Fig. 5.31). At a temperature of +85 ? C thermostat bimetallic spring should start to lengthen. Maximum length of the spring at a temperature of up to +94 ? C. Once the water is heated to the temperature of the opening, adjusting valve should begin to open.
4. Bring water to a boil, then remove the thermostat and measure the size of the ?b?. Compare the value with the initial "A", the difference must be 8 mm.
5. Check whether the thermostat is closed during cooling.
6. Set the thermostat in place.

Removing and installing thermostat
SEQUENCE OF WORK
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

A WARNING
This removes the codes entered in the storage device, such as a radio code.

2. Merge cooling liquid, as previously described.
3. Remove the front upper engine cover.

Removing the thermostat
Fig. 5.32. Removing the thermostat 1 - a bolt; 2 - a cover of the thermostat; 3, 7 - a hose; 4 - thermostat; 5 - O-ring; 6 - thermostat housing

4. Loosen the hose clamps, disconnect hoses 3 and 7 (Fig. 5.32) cooling system.
5. Remove the screws 1 securing the thermostat housing cover and remove the thermostat 4.

A WARNING
Do not remove the cover of the thermostat 4-tsidindrovyh engines and V6, it could be damaged. Re-installing it impossible. If the thermostat is faulty, it must be replaced together with the cover.

6. Before installing the thermostat clean the joints with a gasket on the body and the engine.
7. Install the cover of the thermostat with a new gasket and tighten bolts 1 to 10 Nm.
8. Connect the hose 3 and 7 of the cooling system. Pay attention to its proper fit and tightness of collars.
9. Fill up with coolant.
10. Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
11. Warm up the engine to operating temperature, and check that at the bottom of the radiator heats up.
12. Check the tightness of the thermostat and hose connections.
