Gasoline 4-cylinder engine E 200, E 230
In June 1996, 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2 liters was fitted with a new intake camshaft with variable valve timing, which was previously used on other gasoline engines. Rated power and maximum torque are unchanged, but an improved torque curve provided an easier start of the engine, better acceleration and traction. The engine with a displacement of 2.3 liters was obtained from the time-tested 2.2-liter unit. Increasing the displacement volume was intended to increase the torque capacity instead. Increasing the compression ratio to 10.2 units. and improving the geometry of the combustion chambers have been optimized fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and combustion noise. In a 2-liter engine compression ratio remains the same, and the combustion chamber has also been optimized. Engines E-200 and E-230 is equipped with an upgraded fuel injection system and the engine control HFM air flow sensor spiral type instead of the previously used P-motronic.
