The company - the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz for the first time among the world's automakers developed electronically controlled system to shorten braking distances in an emergency. It is called Brake-Assist, since 1997 the system is installed as standard (Fig. 8.4).
By the nature of depressing the brake system Brake-Assist detects an emergency braking situation by the speed pedal. From this moment control with ensuring the most effective braking electronics assumes as long as the driver does not start to control the force on the brake pedal.
Within fractions of a second increases the braking force due to the fact that in modern brake system with a system Brake-Assist master cylinder and the amplifier is also equipped with electronic components and incorporated into the scheme of the electronic control system, and the braking distance of a vehicle at a speed of 100 km / h is reduced by 45 %.
