Replacing the universal joints



Service universal joint is made complex. Remnabor crossbar includes four needle roller bearing cups, seals and retaining rings. Dismantling universal joints except for the replacement of the components to produce is not recommended.

Do not pinch the sleeve cardan shaft sleeve or sliding joint is too tight in the vice to avoid permanent deformation of the shells.


PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Mark the installation position of the sliding joints and the flange of the cross to the body of the shaft.
  2. Separate the shaft from sliding half.
  3. Remove the universal joint grease fitting (if equipped).
  4. With a pair of screwdrivers and a hammer, remove the retaining ring bearing cups in the holders of the cross.
  1. Clamp the hinge portion of the shaft in a vise, placing interchangeable heads, one side with an outer diameter slightly smaller than ø cup, the other - with an inner diameter slightly larger cups (see. Accompanying illustration).
  1. Squeeze cup from the holder as long as the cross-piece abuts the wall of the latter.
  2. Remove the shaft from the vise and squeezed the cup and remove the rollers of the needle bearing from the holder.
  3. Again, hold the shaft in a vise and press crossbar in the opposite direction.
  4. Remove the shaft from the vise and remove the cup and rollers opposite the needle bearing.
  5. Remove the shaft or flange sliding half.
  6. Repeat the last five paragraphs (for sliding half shaft or flange), completing the dismantling of joints (the components of the universal joint shown in the accompanying illustration).

  1. Clean the hole in the holder bracket by removing them from the edges of walls and any burrs and roughness.
  2. Lubricate rollers and plates bearing the universal lubricant.
  3. Partially thread the cup of one of the bearings in the appropriate holder.
  4. Install the new holder crossbar, then fill the cup with the other side.
  5. Clamp holder in a vise, it zapressovyvaya bearing cups at the same time being careful not to fall out rollers bearings.
  6. With replaceable face head diameter slightly smaller cup drown one of the cups in the holder to the full opening of the groove for the installation of the retaining ring.
  7. The same do the opposite cup.
  8. Install snap rings, check the axial play of the cross - it should not exceed 0.02 mm.

The difference in the thicknesses opposite locking rings should not exceed 0.06 mm. If necessary, align the position of the cross and bearing cups.

  1. Tap the crossbar hammer to select the gap between the holder and the retaining ring, and make sure that the axial play of the cross does not exceed 0.02 mm.
  1. Ensure the freedom of rotation of the joint in all directions. If the hinge is rotated a little tight, install the propeller shaft in a vise and lightly Tap the holder crosses a hammer, ensuring alignment of bearings (see. Accompanying illustration).
  1. Repeat the last eight paragraphs to the opposite hinge shaft. Set the shaft on a car.
